A free windows game booster service that allows you to temporarily strip down your slowing PC to its bare essentials for gaming. This improves the overall speed of your game including frame rate drops and lag spikes as well as alt tabbing out of games faster and generally more responsive gaming.

In my tests my frame rates TRIPLED in World of Warcraft even when I was taking screenshots and saving them in Paint Shop Pro. See the images for yourself.

Awarded an Editors Pick for a totally clean download, not even a toolbar and stupid easy to use. Click a button.

That is one ugly mob! :-D

Nice little app... downloading now, to test it out. Higher FPS is always good. :)

    Hi Major,

Great Result! May I add that it works very well for browser based flash games also. So all the casual gamers out there can also try it.

Just hit the boost button before your gaming session.

We are currently monitoring over 5,000 processes and services and are working on the next 12,000+ to go into the GBoost Central database so GBoost should only get better going forward.

Merry XMAS to all and Happy Gaming!

    Stav from GBoost Team

I did some testing in Mass Effect and in Lord of the Rings Online, with interesting results. In ME, there was no difference in FPS at all (it stayed at a depressing 20 through both tests -- ugh! System hog!). In LOTRO, the FPS doubled when I used GBoost, which struck me as a bit odd, since ME is by far the more demanding of the two.

I still think I'll keep it though, for any games I play going forward.

My bad for being unclear. When I said "ME" I was referring to Mass Effect. Sorry about that.

Hi It's Stav from GZero here.

I will try to answer your questions below.

    1. You should be able to boost your laptop without internet, however you will need to perform at least one boost with internet first to allow GBoost to download a custom boost list for your system.

    2. Please try disabling firewalls and try again

    3. GBoost requires .net at the moment in order for it to function

    4. We have discovered a recent bug that has crept into GBoost that is not allowing it to close certain services with dependencies. This will be fixed in the next update and you should see another 10-15 services stopping on your system. Also we have some more custom options in the pipeline soon.

So in conclusion. GBoost can only get better. It is still in its early stages with many planned options and features. We will never wish to take away its absolute simplicity of just clicking the boost button before you game and this is how it should stay.

All the best for the New Year

    1. I have no ANY internet on laptop.
    2. Its fresh Windows 7 on virtual machine WO any program installed. I usually test new programs on VMWare.

Can you add to Gbooster a functionality of Game Prelauncher please?
It can disable for gaming session:
Shell, Shell components like registered dlls and other stuff. There are no tray, start button, wallpaper etc. Only game running.
It leave only 10 services on Win 7 in game mode. 10 (!) All another 49 turns off (if I check in profile to disable network services).
It fully disables all autorun programs
    It disables sound themes
    It can disable drivers.

So results of GP is 2x better than GB cause it disable a lot of stuff for gaming session. +3 GB - +8 GP on the same settings.
It will be great if you add all of this to the free GBoost.
For example you can add an advanced mode where all of this features will be realized.

    Hi Stav,

If you're taking feedback, I have a minor suggestion for you. It's just a small thing, but something that for some reason really annoyed me (as well as initially confused me). When I started GBoost earlier today, to do some gaming, a pop-up came up and asked me if I wanted to upgrade it or not? I was about to click "no" out of habit, since I have no interested in paying for an upgraded version when the free one clearly does the job, but read the message before clicking, just to make sure. Turns out what GBoost wanted me to agree to was updating to a newer version of the program. Obviously, I clicked yes to that.

Maybe I'm overly picky, but in my world, "upgrade" is what Avast, Avira, and ZoneAlarm wants you to do when they want you to go from the free version to a paid Pro version. It means "instead of the half-functional freeware you have there, let me sell you something much better!". If the message had said "update" instead I would have been a lot less confused.

I told it was something minor. :p

    Great feedback!!!

Does is really say upgrade? It should say update.

Its the little things that we like to make sure are right. If this is indeed the case it will get addressed along with the many other features and some bugs that need addressing.

I could have sworn it said "upgrade", but of course the moment I started thinking I wasn't sure anymore. So I uninstalled GBoost and reinstalled it, hoping it would give me the message again, but sadly not. Sorry. :(

    Just installed the program.
Didn't get any dialog box, just jumped right onto the Internet and grabbed a 4.17MB update.(just helped itself without asking. Some guest.)

Last time I had a guest over that did that, he took my last beer. I was not happy. :(

Yes. At my first time it downloaded 30 mb of don net (but I have it on my harddrive) + 4.17 update. The problem is that I have a limited ADSL traffic - and all limited traff has been end - because there was end of december month.
So now I have to pay overlimited 30 mb. Its not so much but unpleasant.
I think you must add query message box before and anyway the program must work without any updates after the first install. Cause I have no internet on laptop.
E.g. DirectX - has web installer - and standart installer, that does not download anything. So user can choose.

P.s. What do you think about adding a functionality of paid Game Prelauncher to free Game Boost?

At the moment we have an updater that keeps the app up to date. As the initial download is only the updater. It does require a connection to the net to get the first set of files.

In our next update the whole package will be rolled into on download so that you can distribute the file. Total file size should be under 5Mb.

This new package will install the updater, the actual program itself as well as a standard boost file. We hope to have this released in January.

With regard to Game Pre-launcher, we have many ideas and features planned, to strip down your system to the ultimate gaming system it can be. Some of our planned features sound similar to what game pre launcher does although i am yet to use this software and am unable to comment further.

    Hi Stav

That is a perferable idea in the whole package as one main app and updater (standard boost file) and under 5mb, fantastic for DUN and users like Psychedelic in limited internet plans.

With this package will there be the option to turn off and on the updater so that a user can turn it off and not have the app want to go online to a user who wants to udpate as an when or leave it perminently on?

Have you had any or many users of Netbooks trying and feeding back to you as while they are not great gaming machines, I know some play online games and as you mention this would be a benefit to them, also wondering if it would just help the speed and snappiness of a netbook, but this may need say a Netbook oriented boost file... dunno just thinking aloud.

Have to say many thanks for continuing to post and keep us updated.

The updater will continue to check when it has a connection whilst we are developing the Beta into a full version. This is to aid us in controlling the releases as we also have a roll back feature if we find that a bug has crept in. We advise users to keep GBoost upto date with the regular releases to keep it at its optimum performance.

We have tested GBoost on netbooks and it works so long as you have .net installed.

We have not tested a netbook with .net installed and stripped down services vs a netbook without .net and no stripped down services but i am willing to take an educated guess that for things such as playing flash games, a GBoosted netbook would be quicker.

Once we update the next GBoost to include more service shutdowns you should see an even greater increase on struggling machines.

We have also looked at a very extreme version or option going into the new year. (This will most likely find its way into GBoost, we have no plans to charge for this software)

    More feedback! :)

I keep FRAPS running pretty much non-stop on my gaming PC. Would it be possible to add a function to "leave FRAPS running" in GBoost, to keep it from shutting down?

I also noticed that if I have FRAPS on, use GBOOST, then when I click the green button to restore everything again, FRAPS doesn't get restored. Instead I get a notice that says that Windows has no idea how to open this file and it wants to look online for apps to open it. Obviously just an inconvenience, and easy for me to get around ("cancel" -> click on shortcut), but being able to keep FRAPS running when boosting would be nice. :)

I don't know anything about FPS (or much else for that matter!) but I play games a lot, CoD, Ghost Recon etc and I installed IOBit's Game Booster (V2.1) because I was told it would improve the gaming experience. So I was just wondering whether any of you have experience of Game Booster AND GBoost and can make a recommendation of preference between the two.

We will update our database and categorise fraps and Xfire under a new section called Game Utils. Please look out for it appearing in your advanced options list soon and thanks for the suggestion.

You can test Frame rate (frames per second) with Fraps program. It's very simple and takes a moment to test. Just start Fraps and start game.
Game Booster - is more like a fake than a working optimizer. Only +1 - 2 fps that is nothing (I test it on PC and laptop with Win7 and XP - the same results).
Working apps for games that I know are: Game Boost, Fusion and Game Prelauncher. Last app is not for free.
Create new thread if you want to talk about optimizers (or use this ). This thread is only about Game Boost.

Just to correct a misspelling there. It's called GBoost rather than Game Boost although Game Boost was on our shortlist when we were coming up with the name.

    Awesome! Thanks for the update.

A suggestion if I may? A lot of MMO players use Ventrilo to co-ordinate raids, and to have that included with Game Utils would be great. (Game Booster includes it with Xfire and Steam ;) )

GBoost has not much to do with frame rates on games. GBoost simply shuts down unwanted processes during game play like program updaters, sertificates, and other online processes. It simply kills unnecessary net traffic. It also frees ram. Whole thing is to get max possible amount of bandwidth, processor and memory performance for games. GBoost really works especially then when u have much different kind of softwares on ur computer what keeping connections on. I had annoying problem before GBoost. My COD BO made tiny pause/freeze every two seconds and showed as small yellow hill on lagometer. GBoost fixed that problem fully. I really can recommend GBoost. Keep Game Utils on otherwise it shuts down game communications such as Steam, or might disturbs them. I have other options OFF and everything works fine. Just one problem there is with GBoost. (At least on my computer) When u have ur computer boosted and when it goes to sleep mode after wake up GBoost doesnt restore everything. Sure after gaming its good to restore things before going to surf on the net;)

Oh yeah. Learned that the hard way. LOL

Oh, and MuXBoX, I have a screenshot for you of where it says "upgrade", if you're curious about where I saw it. I feel very clever for remembering to get one. LOL

Again, it's a minor thing, but it keeps bugging me. :)
