New Spybot S&D 1.4RC2 issue

Just installed it...clicking 'search for updates' to initially allow application to search for bots...the little update search window opens but the entire application closes before the detection and other update files can be displayed and viewed. There wasn't even time to read the text in the update search window. Never had this happen before with all previous versions. Perhaps the update server isn't functional, temporary hopefully. Any other ideas?......running XP sp2...never any problems before with loading updates or detections.

 

I was running 1.4RC1 and ealier v's before that...never any issues. I always run the uninstall first before installing a new version. I know the manual detection updates from MG install if I want. Still, first time it's occured...on this install of RC2, which I did today when upon seeing it on the homepage app list. Rebooted too.

 

yes...the uninstall wizard helper also gave a click ok to restart button..all went as usual.

 

Yes, no change. I was just in the Spybot homepage checking FAQ's for a clue. It's suggesting I may need a proxy server setting for the application web update feature to work. I'm pretty sure I had no such setting before, and the updates were always found and downloadable. So.

 

Thanks for the input chas...overnight the situation resolved itself. The web update function got connected and I downloaded the detection files I needed. I just finished replying to another poster who had the same issue.
