    Okay, where to begin...
I just aquired a new 80 gig WD sata hd that i wanted to install on my old mobo listed below,im trying to use a sata to ide converter that i purchased from newegg @ http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-999-401&depa=0

Anyway, the problem is there are some jumpers labled jp1, jp2, jp3, and pdiag.
on the sata to ide converter

I have no idea what these are.

    thx, mecroneo AKA jon

I read some reviews on that converter and many many people had trouble getting them to work. What you should get is one of these. SATA Add-in Card

If ya already bought Ya might as well give it a try, or you can return it/exchange it.
I would think some documentation came with it, if not guess, contact manufacture or Newegg, may even be some small print on the adaptor?
