New System Memory

I have XP and want to purchase a new tower with win 7 due to MS dumping XP.
My question is what memory do I need. I use the computer for stock trading (Fidelity Active Trader) and general web surfing. I do want a fast system.

I'm looking at a Dell with 5GB of mem with a 500GB HD.

I decided against Win 8 since I've heard some bad reviews.

 

You basically posted the same question in the Software section of the forum. Since you are going to be buying a new computer, it will come with whatever type of memory is compatible with the motherboard and installed by the manufacturer. So, your question doesn't make much sense. Perhaps you need to clarify your question.

Edit: If you're asking whether a certain type of memory is better for stock trading (Fidelity Active Trader), the answer is no. You need to focus more on the overall specs of the system, including HOW MUCH memory it has, rather than the type of RAM, IMO.

Best Buy recommended the following:

Asus, Windows 7, 8GB memory, 1TB Hard Drive, Intel Core I5 processor

Windows 7 is what I asked for. I know nothing about Asus and want to be sure I'm not purchasing more than what I need. I basically just use the system for stock trading and web surfing.
