    Installed ASUS P4P800--Intel P4 3.0 (800 FSB) 512 MB-Memory-ATI 9200 AGP-WD SATA 360 (36GB) Adaptec SATA PCI Controller.

After Windows XP installation, a message about a missing SM Bus Controller kept popping up. Motherboard came with a CD that made reference to Intel 865P Chipset--Went to Intel site downloaded the file that was referred to (it is an .exe file.--Installed it, Rebooted and BONG!!!!--Windows XP started to come on, then I got a dark screen-nothing.

I try to reboot in the safe mode using F8, but nothing, I just get a blue screen similar to the BIOS but smaller with 4 choices to boot from:1-floppy//2-HD//3-CD-DVD//4-CD-RW---No matter what I try I can't get into SAFE MODE.

    Any Suggestions???

    Many Thanks

Try setting the promise controller to enabled, and the mode to IDE.
