New To Overclocking - Any Tips For Starters?

Here are my PC specs to begin with:

OS - Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
Processor - 2.6GHz Intel Celeron
RAM - 512mb
Video Card - 256mb ATI Radeon 9200


I've been reading up on overclocking for a while and I've heard that it can really boost your PC running speed etc. Well I'd like to try overclocking some aspects of my PC such as RAM & Graphics but I don't want to mess up my PC at all. I don't want to severely overclock it, I just want to make it so that it's within a safe range and I don't have to worry about my PC overheating or crashing.

Any tips or starting points on overclocking would be greatly appreciated.

I am new to overlclocking as well . . . and I have found the most important first consideration is HEAT . . .

You need to make sure that all your componants are well cooled, and that your case is able to discharge generated heat at a more then stock rate.

Addition of after-market CPU coolers and installation of case fans can be a good first step in over-clocking components. Read this here at MG about overclocking . . .

In MHO, overclocking is not something to be undertaken lightly . . . you can damage or destroy your computer . . . and if your PC is something you rely on from day to day . . . then maybe you should experiment on a rig that is not your primary system.

Better to have a slower computer then none at all . . . I have an older P4 system I am playing with . . .and if it fries out I am still alive. But this is just my opinion. Like I said . . . I am new to the allure of OC.
