new tv and ntl cable remote problem

, im not sure where this post goes, but i trust here is ok.

Im totally bamboozled by this problem, if anyone here cant help i doubt no one can (nothing like a touch of flattery )

Ive brought a new plasma TV and also have ntl cable box, unfortunately when the TV is on, the remote for the ntl box works very poorly, i.e. i press the button and nothing happens, or if i press the button on another occasion it may work. When i switch the TV off, the remote for the ntl starts working perfectly.

The video and DVD remotes work as per normal.

So i presume both the new TV and ntl are working on some sort of similar frequency (is this possible?), i have tried moving the ntl box away from the TV but no joy. Ive also tried changing batteries but no joy there.

What can i do to solve the problem, its a mystery.

 

If those remotes are working on the same frequencies as MOST cordless telephones ((2.4ghz)) then that could be what is interfering...maybe try moving the base for the cordless phone to another room.

And as stupid as it may seem...could be the batteries!! Those batteries might have sit on the warehouse shelf for who knows how long, then once they got paired with that particular TV...who knows how long that TV has been sitting around...So maybe try fresh ones!! You would be amazed at how weak batteries can make remotes do funky things for no rhyme or reason!!!!

Sorry maybe i was not completely clear.

With my old TV, the ntl remote was working fine when the TV was on, now it is not, this ONLY occurs when the new TV is on. When the new TV is placed on standby or off, then the ntl box works perfectly with the remote.

So when the TV is on, ntl does not work off the remote, when the TV is off the ntl works perfectly off the remote. This is why maybe something from the TV is interfering when the TV is on.

Its all very bizarre

btw the digital phone is in the same place its always been, in the next rrom.

 

ntl, have always been trouble.

Coincidentially enough, I'm going to mention scarts, check other thread on them if you're interested, but try another scart socket on your tv.
Have you tried other batteries at all though, irrelevant of the fact that it's not a new digibox system?

 

yes ive tried new batteries, old batteries and allsorts of battery combinations.

i will try you scart socket theory, and report back. I have two scarts, one from the dvd direct to the TV scart 2, then from the ntl box direct to the TV scart 1.

Also whilst im on connections, i have the ariel lead connected into the video, then another lead from the video to the TV socket. Does this sound about right?
