New Usb Floppy Drive: Strange Behavior But Works?

Hi! This morning, I got a new USB floppy drive in the mail. Now, when I installed it on my Win7/64 laptop at my day program, the computer said that the hardware wasn't properly installed, but its icon appeared in This PC. When I inserted a disk, Explorer registered as empty, which it should've done, as the disk was empty. All drive access seems to work fine. I then installed it on my home computer, the drive kept acting like I was keeping accessing it when I wasn't but actual attempts to access it actually worked. I'm worried that the latter will wear out the drive. If you have any insight as to what could be causing this, especially the constant-access issue, please let me know.
