Hello geeks, now I just got this thing and I am coming to grips with "crimson" and the lack of a catalyst control center. I've got my fancurve and monitoring going with msi afterburner but I seem to be lacking some more advanced resolution \ refresh rate and multiple display settings that catalyst control center would offer. So a problem quickly cropped up, in original half-life and source engine games, I can no longer run a game in windowed mode using previously functional resolutions. I run 1600x1200 desktop resolution and would game with either 1600x900 or 1600x1024 but in either game when I look at possible resolutions, it only goes up to 1440x900. It's really odd and other games let me manage windows of whatever size but no matter the launch options before hand or any tinkering it doesn't want to let me use these settings. Previous cards 560 ti and 9800gt had no problem using these resolutions. I am able to run 1600x1200 in fullscreen mode in hl1 and I can run borderless windowed mode in some source engine games at 1600x1200 which is acceptable but not preferred. The closest I've got to advanced management of display settings via drivers was in "radeon settings", display tab, gpu scaling turned on. But this only makes it so my highest possible resolution is 1280 x 1024 and that is lame :(

I feel like they didn't think about 4:3 users or users not using modern flat displays as half of the display options aren't available for me such as Virtual Super Resolution. Changing the scaling mode seems to have no effect on possible resolution options either. Kind of just at a loss here, gonna root around and maybe install some old version of catalyst control center.

p.s. Just checked unity engine launcher, remembering it shows a lot of resolutions before starting and it also cannot run a window size higher than 1440x900, atleast with unity I might be able to scale the window :(

Installed Catalyst 15.7.1 and that gave me some control over removing EDID enforcement, I am able to choose a 16:9 windowed resolution in the games tested, 1600x900 but no 1600x1024 yet... maybe I'll try adding a custom resolution

    Win 7 64-bit. amd 8320e 990fx ddr3 1866 r7 370

Unity game launcher only reports the same limited resolutions while source engine games and hl1 let me choose 16:9

Still haven't enabled 1600x1024 as a possible resolution, tripled my google efforts and now I feel like I am about to download a virus trying to find a driver for my old monitor. I feel like I am going about this in the wrong way or don't know how to properly express the issue I am having. I have heard of people editing their driver .ini? or .inf files manually, would this be where a list of accepted resolutions are kept? I tried adding 1600x1024 with proper refresh rates in catalyst control center with catastrophic results, had to plug in a second monitor to discover I had somehow removed 1600x1200, my monitors native resolution, and replaced it with a non functioning 1600x1024, it literally took its place. I can't really even begin to describe what these drivers are up to or even really how I got 16:9 working in the first place, sigh. At least I found the game Snow lets me use a windowed resolution of 1600x1024.

Edit - davismccarn, thank you for solving the case of the missing 1600x1024 resolution in my games. I made a detailed resolution of 1600x1024, refresh rate doesn't really matter in my case but still attempted to pick the lowest acceptable for my monitor. Still baffled as to why I can't see 1600x900 in windows desktop resolution choices but I made it appear in my games and now 1600x1024! Happiness, now I can stream "1080p" and multitask with more ferocity. Also revisiting the program, CRU I no longer see 1600x900 in the list, wondering if I imagined it.

Thanks for the poke in a direction, upon using the software I am unable to add a new standard resolution of 1600x1024 using any compatible refresh rates. I would have to hook up an old computer to see if I could have set that resolution in windows, almost sure it was an option. The program lists resolutions like 1600x900 and 1680x1050(a 16:10 resolution) yet no 1600x1024. I am going to blindly add a detailed resolution with the lowest acceptable refresh rate, scary thing is it uses 3 places after the decimal point to define the refresh, I am used to like two numbers. So hopefully I'm not locking myself out of my computer and forcing a safe mode recovery. Or using another monitor to recover this one once its beyond range.

The list of established ranges on the left side of the program only shows 4:3 and eventually 5:4 at the bottom, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and lastly 1280x1024. On the right under standard resolutions as mentioned, I can see Gonna restart and see if cru added my "detailed" resolution.

Current weirdness state, can select 1600x900 in games, not as a desktop resolution. I can choose a 16:10 resolution as a desktop resolution but it only goes up to 1440x900 and none of these show up in CRU, you would think I would see 1440x900 somewhere since it's a selectable desktop resolution, only shows the 4:3 and 5:4 thanks for your help

K 10 minutes past so no edit but I jumped the gun of course. I actually replaced 1600x900 with 1600x1024 somehow... Gives some credence to me thinking I saw it at first then it was gone, in CRU that is. I don't see 1600x900 in any of the games that did have it before and now I see 1600x1024. While I really have no need for 1600x900 it's nice to have all available choices in case the need arises, for now I am satiated but this may bother me in the future. Current next step is to add an additional detailed resolution of 1600x900 alongside 1600x1024 and hope they both chill out. I don't understand the whole resolution swap thing but the same exact thing happened when I tried to add a custom resolution using catalyst, except it swapped it for 1600x1200, my current desktop resolution and forced me to enter a recovery mode. Frustrated but in a better place, thanks again.
