Been sat on a Tbird 1100 for so long and think an upgrade will be nice, nice, nice. So I got a XP 2500+ mobile processor stuck it in my pc and it doesnt seem to be able to do anything over a 6.0 multiplier, not even it's default which is 14.

It doesn't crash or lock, it's just that I'll select it and it won't take it just reverts back to 6.0, that applies with trying to set any multiplier.

I downloaded CPUID and set a higher multiplier there and it said the new core speed has increased, so that seems to work, I dont notice any speed increase with general usage but it said it clocks higher.

Is there anyway to set a higher Multiplier in the BIOS? I know very little about overclocking and jumpers and the like so will someone please offer a helping hand so this small upgrade doesn't go in vain.

    Thanks muchly

    :)

    What Brand & model MOBO?
Not all desktops can run mobiles, none are officially supported, many need a Bios update for Mobiles

If it's turn out you can run a Mobile, I can trade an XP2500+ 333fsb Barton core ( Unlocked multipiler ) for your Moblie

One more thing no need to double post

What Bios version are you running?
My guess your in need of Bios update!

On Asus Web under CPU support for your mobo An XP2500+ Barton core (non mobile) requires Bios v 1016, So I'd reccomemd the 1016 or newer
Also check mobo manual for jumper settings, if you dont have manual you can download one at Asus web:
    http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A7V333

An NF2 MOBO would be best for your Mobile chip, I'm selling one of those Too, an A7N8X Deluxe v2.0

OCing your CPU should be done in BIOS, your MOBO BIOS abilities are probably limited.

I was thinking about, you said your multiplier is at 6, Thats where my mobile 2600 defaults at

IMO using software to OC a CPU/Memory will lead to trouble, use the BIOS if you can.

As I said, a NF2 mobo will be best
    I have a DFI Ultra B, NF2, running a XP-2600 mobile, 9.5 x 250fsb at 2375 MHz

this is the route to take. many mobo's from that time-frame didn't support Mobile CPU's... so to fix it, BIOS updates were required. You are lucky that it even runs.
