newbie file conversion

not sure if this would be the correct spot but...
I have a cd dvd that is an instructional video on doing some mechanic work. I want to upload it to you tube. How do i go about doing that?

I have windows 7
dvd is a vcd file format. it is old and not good quality but i do not need to to be. I just want it public so i can show people online.
.MOV MPEG4 AVI .WMV .MPEGPS .FLV 3GPP WebM is what youtube excepts so basically do I just need to convert my file to one of those? how do i do it?

Try converting what you have using |MG| VLC

Check out the site's web page, linked from the above download link, and there are several tutorials on the web, "convert video with VLC" as a search term should put you onto what you need...

 

If that is a VCD, there should be a folder with a file name AVSQENT.DAT - or something like that.
Goto http://www.videohelp.com/tools/vcdgear , download VCDGear and it will 'rip' the dat file to a mpg, you can upload.
Click the drop down and select dat -> mpeg, then click load and browse to the dat file, then start.

There are plenty of tutorials at videohelp.com , they used to be vcdhelp.com , but times change, that VCD never really caught on in the US.

 

Either way i do it i seem to only get a .ps file type and youtube will not accept that. even when i select mp4 or something else.
do i just open the video in easy media player or any video player, then click convert and save?
