I recently installed the newest version of Spybot S&D.
Works great, but I have to wonder. Those baloons that popup
everytime you start the computer and tell you which
    registry changes have been allowed/disallowed?
Are those balloons going to popup forever?
I can't find a setting anywhere to turn them off.....

Curious as to what balloons that you are referring to, as I am using 1.4 with the latest definition updates, and don't have this problem. Do you have Spybot running at startup? Did you download any of the add ons? :)

Turn off the pop-up balloons in XP:

    1. Goto Control Panel
    2. Click Folder Options (in the classic view)
    3. Click the View tab
    4. Unselect the Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items option
    5. Click OK

No add ons. I do have the tea timer enabled though. The popups I'm
talking about are clearly Spybot's attempt to mimick the way
Microsoft's antispyware does it. It's a normal excel style balloon on the
lower right near the tool tray. When you boot up windows they popup
to show which registry changes you have allowed/disallowed.
It's freaking annoying I can tell you. I deleted Microsofts antispyware
because of that. I have a low tolerance for balloons that don't have an
x that you can click on to kill them. And Microsofts and Spybot S&D;s
    both lack the x option.

That's not a bad idea, but I would much rather kill it
from Spybot S&D if I can. As a last resort I will do that,
but only if I have to.

What mode in SpyBot are you running in Default or Advanced

    Advanced.

(but I'm pretty sure it did it in default mode too, after I first installed it)

Ahhh, teatimer. I still don't like that program, even with earlier versions of Spybot.

    Anyway, to turn it off:

    Start Spybot.

Select Mode (at the top of the menu..to the right of file, to the left of language)
    Select Advance Mode.

Then select Tools (on the right, just below settings, and above "Info & License"

Then select Resident (below "Secure Shredder" and above "IE Tweaks".

Now, uncheck "Resdident "Teatimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.

I also, typically delete the teatimer program myself.

    Edit:

Teatimer is almost as annoying as winpatrol, IMHO.

The problem is that I like Tea Timer to be running. I like that it monitors
registry changes. I just want to kill the stupid balloons. I hope they
weren't so short sighted to not include a switch for the balloons.
