Thanks but why do you recommend the 2.64 version. I was under the impression that newer drivers exist.

Are they just not compatible with my mobo? ;)

When having problems its a wise step to take and use mobo manufacturers drivers first, those drivers are the chipset drivers and not just the audio driver, chipset drivers are vital these days in allowing all the other hardware to be recognised easily.

then once everything is working ok, try upgrading to newer drivers.

Quick question are you using the on-board sound of the mobo or a PCI sound card?
If on-board check bios to see if its enabled.

In device manager do you have any yellow ! marks if so which?

What errors do you get or just is it no sound... if no sound and drivers look installed on in device manager, check Audio Settings for mute checked or vol low.

I tried upgrading the drivers but it gets stuck everytime at 12% (something about bus driver components.)

I am using the onboard sound.

I only have 1 yellow ! mark and it's the raid controller which I disabled.

I don't get errors I just don't get sound, the device is at 100% volume and isn't muted.

The first link I posted are the Motherboard Chipset drivers for your mobo, have you installed the motherboard drivers? These allow other hardware to be correctly recognised and installed.

These are the updated Unified nForce2 drivers from NVidia for the motherboard ( they are not the same drivers as the sound ones )
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html
install these then test your sound out if OK, then install the audio drivers.

I am aware of the importance of these drivers but they wouldn't install on my system. Everytime the installation got to about 12% it crashed.
So I'm reinstalling XP, I will keep you posted how things are going. ;)

I am ordering a new sound card tomorrow it will hopefully fix the problem.
