The HP site is usually pretty reliable for hosting the correct drivers, but in at least one instance, they dropped the ball BIG TIME!! The Pavilion dv7-1261wm has a Broadcom wireless driver posted on the HP support page. However, the laptop DOES NOT have a Broadcom chip, it has an Atheros chip (the AR5009 to be axact), and the drivers from Atheros do not work. As I researched this driver, I came to realize that there are MANY different HP laptops using this Atheros chip, but HP keeps throwing the Broadcom drivers at people, which do not work, and there's a lot of POed folks out there... BUT.... I found the correct driver at HP listed under a different model. The download is SP42654 and can be downloaded here:

The drivers are Vista only, 64bit is supported, and they should be OK for Win7 too....

So if you have a problem getting a wifi driver working with Vista in your HP laptop, and HP is telling you that the driver is a Broadcom, try this driver....
