Should have said NIS 2005 in the title above!

I notice when I look in the "C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads" folder that there are quite a lot of zip files there, such as:

    1135034191jtun_enale210.213.full.zip.
    avenge$20microdefs25$..........livetri.zip
    1148135406jtun_en60510019.m25
    etc.....

Re: NIS 2005. Can all these Compressed Zip files and the other files in that "Downloads Folder" be deleted? There are 363 items = 100 MB, going back to 2005.

Yes, you can remove the contents of the "Downloads" folder.

**Do not delete the Download folder itself, only its contents**

Posting in this b/c I have one of the files mentioned and, at this point, it's just a small question. What is Avenge Microdefs? Is it a new Symantec product or do I need to do the full anti-malware regimen and possibly go to the malware forum for further assistance? Or both?

    Background:
Symantec Antivirus (would not have been my choice but it was not my call) tries to update it when I tell it to run LU, and I just want to double check first, especially since I don't recall seeing it the last time I ran LU (last night). The reason I wanted to run LU again today is that Symantec AntiVirus (which, per Symantec, does not exist-- they only have info about Norton AntiVirus) had quarantined a number of files.

    Thanks.

Be careful with deleting out of this folder. For instance, I have my antivirus in the folder.

Zip files can be deleted, presumably you have already expanded and installed them and these install files remained behind.

When ever I install a program, I choose the "run"versus "save" option, so I don't end up with the installation file on my drive. An exception to this would be per the instructions in the malware removal forum here at MG where they want you to first save and later run the program.:wave:wave
