    Hi,

I'm a new member with a problem that has been giving me hell. I have IE 6 in xp pro sp2 and I am not able to access options/tools tab. I ran Hijack this and did not see any restriction in my reg. I checked the regedit and did not find any thing to suspect a change. I have access to the control panel,I get this mssg: This operation has been cancelled due to restriction in effect on this computer. please contact your system administrator. error if I try. When checking the reg in microsost restriction all it states is default (value not set)
nothing else. Anyone have this happen to them befor?

i had used "SafeXP" once, and found that most errors i got were because of these settings, did you too use safexp?

I know I've also seen various security software. cause this, so maybe try it in safe mode or after exiting out of security software (disconnect from the internet first).

Also, if you have Spybot Search and Destroy, go to the "immunize" section, and uncheck "lock IE control panel..."

These are the progs I used: spybot, hjt, adaware, ccleaner, cam tech's IE restrictions, root kit revealer,IE fix, I know my browser is being hijacked all the time now to hitbox or paypal or some other place. I ran hjt and an 04 came up unmax.ex unamx I deleted it but nothing in the hosts file. unchecked IE lock in spybot tried safe mode as the sys admin still can not gain access to the tools/internet options....

OK, be carefull with this one, it can be dangerous if the wrong things are changed.

Got to start, run, type "gpedit.msc" (no quotes), navigate to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel (on the left hand side), and set everything listed here on the right to "not configured".

Also, if you are having spyware issues and/or hijacks, it might not be a bad idea to run throught the "read and run me first before asking for support" routine, and then put up a post in the spyware forum to see if they can help you out with that. In the mean time, I'm sure everyone here will keep on doing there best to get you back into "internet options" :)

    Best of luck

I've already tried the group policy editor everything was set as "not configured" .My hjt log showed nothing out of place I know how to read them. I was able to get into tools/internet options tab when I got into intecpl.cpl but when I tried to get into the advanced tab to configure my
settings nothing was there I was only given the option of picking 3 levels of internet security low, medium low or medium . I was hoping to check the boxes to see if anything was there but I couldnt get in. I have win xp pro sp2 2600 final build now should'nt the internet icon be there? Also When I go into HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\System] the only d word values not 0 are : shut down with out logon=1 and undock without logon=1 and when I search for reg restrictions I see none.

Do you get the same error when you try and access Internet Options from the Tools tab on IE?

Have you tried dial-a-fix? You do need admin permission to run the program so you may need to run it in safe mode. Check all of the boxes then click GO. Reboot. Dial-a-fix has additional features if that doesn't do the trick, but I'm pretty sure that it will. After doing this you need to install SpyBlaster and DSOstop if you don't have them. Consider Maxthon maybe too.

Computer problems are no fun. Hopefully this helps.

    P.S. I only suggest freeware. ; )

Good luck, and post again soon.
