I just installed a burner. Could not get it to work so put everything back the way it was before I start messing with it. Now my computer will not acknowledge that I have a D or E drive. It states. windows has loaded devise driver for your hardware but cannot find the hardware divise (code 41)
Please help what should I do now? Thanks

Check the Ide lead, and power lead are pushed home properly, and if you have a second dvd/ cd drive, ensure that the burner is set to master, on the back jumper, and that the other drive(if you have one) is set to slave, or, Windows will play up.

If you still have aproblem, go to my computer, properties, and uninstall the dvd drives, shut down, restart, and let Windows find it / them again, with the jumpers in the right settings.

Thanks, I have tried everything you said and then some. I just got tired of messing with it and was afraid I was really going to harm something..so...I remover the burner, put back the one that was there and system restore to a working time. I tried all different combs of the jumpers. (after I did the way the insturctions said) I'm thinking that I got a bad burner. All is back working great now. Thanks for your help. I may try again in the future.

Yes, the last thing any of us want to do is just be mechanics, and change the item, so we work on the diagnostics, until ther is only one answer.
Try in another computer, if possible, before replacing it.

When you fit new IDE devices they have to be recognised in BIOS before Windows gets to them or Windows can't see them.
When you try again, after installation go to your BIOS (setup) by tapping the del or F2 key as you power up. (It may be another key, watch the screen carefully). See if the CD drives are listed on the first page, if not go through the auto detect IDE devices routine, select save changes and exit.
windows will then see the drives.
