I uninstalled a trial version of NOD32 antivirus as the only change to my system today and at first I noticed the internal beep PC speaker making noises but didnt think much of it until I tried to play an mp3 and WMP said it cant play it becasue there is a problem with my audio device.

I then tried it in VLC media player and it is just silent.

Then I noticed nothing at all would work with sound! So i ventured into control panel and under sound/audio devices it says there is none installed.......how do I reinstall my audio device which is built into my motherboard???

I dont know why it was disabled, anyone know whats going on?

    HI

Do you know the make an version of your motherboard? or if the PC is bought from an OEM like Dell, HP etc the model of the PC?

We could direct you to the generic Realtek AC97 drivers, but depending on maker of the motherboard/PC they may have a slightly customized version of the driver which would be best to install.

IF its a custom build and you dont know the motherboard maker and version then download Everest and once installed and run click Computer > Summary and the info will be under Motherboard.

If an OEM then model should be on the case somewheres.

    Hi,

The make of my motherboard (judging from the box I pulled ou tof the cupboard is an albatron intel 865PE/PE Pro. It was not purchased from dell or someone like that but a local computer shop, about 4 years ago.

    It says about the audio:
6 channel audio, realtek ALC650 codec supports 5.1 channel audio effect

Where do I go (in control panel?) to install my audio device?

    Thanks for your help.

Can you click on the Driver tab, then driver details and list the files?
