Under "other devices" Multimedia audio controller has biiiig yellow question mark. Can't rollback, re-install, or update driver. Is it a driver problem? HELP! :banghead Have downloaded Everest - What info do you need and how do I get it to you?

    Hi

If your PC is one from the likes of DELL, HP, Sony, etc what is the Make and model varient as this will assist us to get correct drivers?

If your PC is a home or custom build what is the motherboard make and version?

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

    Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Thanks! However, I don't want to screw this up. Computers are not my forte. Do I run these? Save them to a file? Any help would be appreciated... :tired You'll have to excuse me - been plowin' snow off and on for the last 36 hours.:tired

Run them in the order Halo has said and all should be OK.

    Hi

Yes gotcha on question, save them initially on your desktop say, so when the prompt comes up to Run ~ Save ~ Cancel click Save, then once all saved then double click them to run in order I mentioned, and reboot after Chipset INF then install Audio driver and reboot.

Oh and I went to "the wizard" to install driver 'cause I got a "found new hardware" message. Although the location specified in my last post was already in the "browse" window, I get a...

    Hi

If you open the wdm3516b_Cadenza folder thats on your desktop do you see a file named Setup (should be a blue icon with what looks like a PC monitor in white), double click that to install the drivers, as going the Hardware Wizard route by default the main INF file is not located in that main directory.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys...(#!@*!Holidays)... I opened Setup.exe, SOUNDMAX Installshield ran, then I get a circle red X window titled "Severe" - Driver not found! Reboot your system and run setup again. Every time I start up I get a "new hardware found" balloon but nothing seems to work.:confused

Are you using this sound driver?
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng

    Follow the steps below....

    1. Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager
    2. Click the little plus sign next to the category of the driver you want to install/update
    3. Right click the device and select "Update Driver"
    4. The "Hardware Update Wizard" will open; click the bottom circle and click "Next"
(this window may be called the "New Hardware Wizard" but everything else is the same)
    5. In the next window that opens, select the bottom circle for "....a specific location"
    6. The next window that opens, select the top circle, and the 2nd box for "include this location in the search" and click the "Browse" button (the green box in the screen shot) and a "Browse for folder" window will open.
    (see screenshot)
    7. When the "Browse" window closes, the location you selected in step 6 will appear in the location bar (purple box in screen shot); click "Next".
    8. At this point, the driver should install. When it's done, click finish. It's usually a good idea to restart the PC at this point.

If you still receive the message after trying the driver update...Uninstall the old driver then install the new one...

Go to add/remove programs and look for SoundMAX...Select and click to remove>>select "remove all' at prompt...After removal you will need to reboot.

After reboot you may recieve notice of 'found new hardware'....Do not let windows find the driver for you...cancel out and then double-click on setup.exe in the SoundMAX install package...

I'm Ba'ack, and this time... so is the audio. Thanks Halo, BILLMCC66, dlb, and a_cup for your help and patience with the "ol'blue". Nothing seemed to work. Through the hardware wizard nothing that highlighted "Browse" would work.:hammer No "setup.exe" would work from the unzipped file.:banghead It's amazing how this piece o' crap can "Found New Hardware" but won't tell me, THE ADMINISTRATOR, where it is hiding. 'Bout ready to give up when I found a folder (C:unzipped) and I thought :confused " no, it couldn't be this easy" "click"... installation began... MUSIC!:dood Thanks again. I learned alot from you geeks.:major
