I am running a HP Pavillion a6500f dual core E220 Desktop with 4Gb of Ram and onboard graphics. The factory Mobo is a Foxconn MCP73mo1h1.

Issue started about a week ago with the rig just shutting down. Nothing going on, it just turned off. it would power back up and boot fine so did my usual scans and checks and didn't find anything abnormal.

Yesterday, went to power up and the CPU fan spun up very fast for 4 seconds and then the rig shut down. no boot, no POST codes no nothing.

Figured H/W issue so I pulled the RAM chips and hit the power. Got 3 long beep POST before it shut down again. According to the Foxconn website this means a memory issue. So I started the swap ram between slots to isolate a bad slot. Basically got Ram chip 1 to work in slot two and it booted up. Thought the issue was over with a BAD Ram chip.

came in this morning and again she will not boot. However, now when I take out the Ram and power to check for the post code, there is none ?? I am sort of afraid the Mobo is gone since there no beeps at all now. Tried the HP help line and I've been on hold forever. I have cleared the CMOS and reset the batteries as well.

    Thanks for any advice.

Try another PSU as a bad one could cause these symptons.

Thanks Toke, did try another PSU with no luck. Still leaning towards Mobo. HP tech support told me I had to send it in for bench repair :( the warrenty just ran out two weeks ago :cry

Breadboarded it out so that all I had was MOBO, CPU and PSU. CPU fan comes on but no POST codes. Pretty much think its the Mobo vs the CPU.

Ok was gonna suggest to breadboard myself, one other thing you could do is to remove/clean/re-apply paste on CPU to see if thats the issue other than that you seem to have exhausted all trials for this prob. :(
