I uninstalled norton internet security for a client on an xp home machine and now their internet no longed connects in normal mode. It says it connects but no webpages pop up and i am unable to update ad-aware, spybot, or AVG. In safe mode though, it works perfect. I can surf everytime and update the programs mentioned I ran an LSPfix and a winsock repair but they havent done anything to help so far. I also uninstalled the driver and re-installed it again but that also didn't help. Anyway ideas on what i should do next? Thanks in advance!

I don't think your problem is malware-related. Norton's is hard to uninstall. Did you try going back to an earlier restore point from before the Norton's was uninstalled? Try to get the computer back to an earlier state and then go to the Symantec website and run their uninstall program at
    Symantec Removal.

I used the Norton removal tool from there website to remove norton in the first place. The system restore points were all infected so i had to kill them off too.

    Hi Hackysackmatt !!

If the system restore points were all infected, then try following our standard cleaning procedures as close as you can, and see if you come back into normal mode that way. I'll post the link with some instructions here for you. It'll help us to be able to look at the logs.

No, no. It can enter normal mode just fine, It just wont go to any websites at all, or let me update anything. Im am running IE 6 and I uninstalled and reinstalled that to no avail.

There must have been a corrupt internet explorer file cause I uninstalled IE6 and installed IE 7 and it fixed it.
