So I built a computer from the ground up. I put it all together and I get no display. Im not even sure if its running POST because there is no internal speaker in the case (which pissed me off) hence I cant hear the beep it makes when its is running POST or if it is giving off any beep codes. I have made sure that everything is plugged in and connected right. Im not sure if there is any kind of compadability issue or what, although there doesnt seem to be at least on paper. Im pretty sure that the power supply (500 watts) is sufficent although I dont know how to even check that. The video card says it needs 450watts so I guess it would be enough. There is no VGA connection on the motherboard so another thing I was thinking that maybe som kind of software needs to be installed for the video card to work in any capacity. Its a PCI express and I have never built a PC with PCI express before so Im not sure. Ive been at this for 2 days now trying all I can think of so if anyone has any advice or sees anything I dont I would appreaciate it. Here are the specs,
    Motherboard- ECS P965T-A (V1.0) P965 775
    CPU- INTEL|CORE 2 E6400 2.13G 775 R
    video card- PCI express ATI X1800XT 256MB 100-435840 R
    RAM- 1Gx2|MUSHKIN DII667 991503 R
    HDD- 80G SATA
    Power Supply- 500watt

There should be a little black thing on the mother board that works well enough to be called a speaker, no beeps? Your psu 20 or 24 pin? This will be tough because you dont know if any of your parts are working. ed

The power supply is a 20 pin but the mobo has a 24 pin connector, also the 4 pin connector on the power supply and theres an pin connector on the mobo. i was wondering about that but the mobo manual said i could use the 20 and the 4. Also where would the speaker on the mobo be??

There should be a 4 pin plug for the cpu, it will only fit one way, and it is not the extra 4 plug on the 20 pin side, do you have it plugged in? the so called speaker will look like a round piece of plastic the size of maybe a dime. ed

yes the 4 pin is pluged in and I dont see the so called speaker although there is a connector on the mother board next to the SATA connectors which is for an internal speaker. Also i dont see an LED on the mobo to indicate that it is getting power. (not that its not on just isnt there) I should have also mentioned that the case fans, CPU fan, and video card fans all work. I can also hear the hard drive spining. The power button on the case and the LED lights on the case all light up as well.

Have you cleared the cmos? Unplug psu/pull mother board battery out for a few minutes and put back in, might be a ram issue. ed

    CMOS cleared... same thing

If your case is running an ATX power supply : there should be a bunch of connection cables running from the case front panel which connects to a set of pins in the lower right corner of your mobo.(or there abouts) These should be labeled, ATX pwr switch, reset switch, HDD led, power led, and a small 4 pin internal speaker connector.(should be labeled)
It is the speaker connector plug that is critical to the POST beeps required..
You must also ensure that the orientation is correct ie. positive v ground

The power connectors for the mobo have nothing to do with the internal speaker....ie. having said that there should be a 20 pin connector for the mobo main and an extra 4 pin 12v power connector for extra charge at the CPU....get the 4 pin connector wrongly orientated and the system will not respond.
On most generic cases this 4 pin 12v CPU connector is poorly labeled for correct orientation...if in doubt leave it disconnected to test your power up and then try all 4 orientation configs till the system boots correctly!

There is a 8 pin CPU connector on the mobo, however the power supply has only a 4 pinconnector. It only fits one way. Should I get a power supply with an 8 pin connector?? I see the pins you are talking about for the case and they are hooked up correctly. I see the pins for the speaker. there are 2 pins a space with no pin and a 3rd pin. I managed to find a speaker from an old (really old) PC the connector on the wire fits but has only 2 wires. Im assuming power and ground. Tried both orientations neither worked. Is the speaker to old?? Should a compatable speaker have three wires?? Thanks for your help.

The 4 pin connector will only fit one way, lock to lock, do not try to fit it any other way or you will have a junk board. ed

Very unusual to see an 8 pin connector on the mobo for CPU 12v however if the 4 pin psu plug fits only one way i would suggest you orientate as such. The 2 speaker pins you refer to should denote the positive, while the 3rd pin after the gap in pins denotes your ground. If there is any writing on the pin connectors, make sure they are face up.
Please supply mobo specs to further evaluate!!!!

    Cheers.....

Ive been searching the last 20 min. for info on that board, ecs website is a pos, everywhere i look it says 24 pin psu, does not say 20 pin will work, so im not really sure, might make a call tommorrow to where you bought the board and ask some questions. Good Luck. ed

You are right ed....but you will find that most generic cases that supply a 24 pin plug simply means that they are tied together as one...ie separate the split and you end up with a 20 pin (mobo main) and a 4 pin 12v cpu as a separate connection...

You will get it, with all new parts you dont know if they are all good, just because they are new dont mean they are good or compatable, i know that sucks because you were expecting a working pc. Let us know what takes place. Thanks. ed

I guess i ll just start swaping out parts

I have tried it with another video card and different ram and I get nothing. I will not be able to try with a different processor. Should I replace the board??

I am getting exactly the same problem - no POST beeps, no video. Tried resetting CMOS. Verified video card is good, memory is good and CPU is good,

My board came with an addendum concerning cmos jumpers, it shows jumpers need to be across pins 2 and3 for normal - unfortunately i cannt see the pin 1 identifier on the motherboard - whether its towards the top or the bottom of the block.

Placed a call with the manufacturer - will post their response here.

Are you saying you have the same Motherboard as I do??

If you have the clear cmos jumper wrong nothing should fire up, no fans no nothing. ed
