    Hi All,
    I am a bit stuck,
i have built my neighbour a whole system, put it together and no post and no display????

    The system is:
    Asus barebone M3N200 Barebone system
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7750+ Black Edition CPU
    Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-093-CR&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817
OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 Power Supply PSU
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM Sata Drive
Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Re Writer

    All bought from www.overclockers.com
so far I have, Cleared the CMOS,
Added in a speaker for post testing,
    Removed and reseated everything
Tested with just 1 stick of ram, on each stick,
connected a known working IDE drive and tried to boot.
Tested both the D-sub (blue) and DVI (white) out put.
What else can I try?? please help

    Just read this thread here:
    Here
Only thing is I dont have another processor to test with. Any one near Gatwick with a spare AM2 chip i can borrow to test please?

pull the motherboard from the case, set it on a non conductive surface , hook up the power supply ram and video and try to post. It may be grounded on a misplaced spacer under the board. It's very easy to overlook or misplace them when putting them in.

    Will have a look tonight.
    It was installed by overclockers

I would check the power supply - swap in a different one. Do you hear any beeps? When you mounted the CPU, did you use TIM?

  6. Captain Drift

    Captain Drift Corporal

Digerati- This is a new PSU, but yes can swap to the old one,
No beeps, Waht is TIM?, there was the thermal pasted already on the heatsink

New PSUs can be bad too. Also note that some motherboards and some graphics cards require additional connections to the PSU.

Sorry, TIM = Thermal Interface Material, and yes a pad, though not the best, should be fine, if new and whole.

Jeez, I can't get any video either from my old rig. I'll follow both threads. It's a bad day for video issues.

Did you pull the board as ibbonkers suggested to make sure there are no extra standoffs shorting out your motherboard?

    Please Follow the Below steps:

The machine is getting powered on but no display

•Check the monitor is switched on and the power indicator LED of the monitor is glowing.
    •Check the monitor power connection.
•Adjust the contrast/brightness knob of the monitor to maximum.
•Check whether the monitor is connected properly to the video adapter of the system.
•If your system has add-on video adapter, switch off the system and remove the power. Remove the screw holding the card in place and then remove the card from the expansion slot. Reseat the card into the slot, ensuring a firm connection. Replace the screw and reattach the monitor to the system. Now switch on the system and see.
•Check whether the CPU, memory are connected properly to the motherboard.

So far I have replacedthe PSU-- No beep,
removed and reseated the board---No beep,
Reseated the CPU and checked for bent pins---No beep
    Could this be the CPU?
Is this V3-M3N8200 board the same as the M3N78-VM board? onthe board it says "M3N78-VM/V3-M3n8200. As the CPU is on the compatability list only after a bios update.

What board? Just to be sure were on the same page - did you completely remove the motherboard from the case? Once removed, did you carefull verify there were standoffs screwed into the case ONLY where there was a corresponding mounting hole in the motherboard? If you did not do this, there may be standoff in the case touching and shorting exposed circuits on the motherboard. Note that cases are designed to support 1000s of motherboards of various sizes. There will always be more mounting hole in the case than there are in the motherboard.

I completely removmed the mother board the Asus M3N78VM
The case only has the raised bubble style mounts and nothing else.

As this is a barebone system I thought the case was designed for this board.

I think i have found out that I need to update the Bios to get the compatability. I am ordering a Test CPU from ebay today.

Thank you for the help so far. This is by far the best forum for help

Nope. The ATX Form Factor standard was set up by hardware makers to ensure an ATX case will support an ATX motherboard and ATX power supply. This is so you can pick and chose the parts, and still know they will fit in the case, connect via standard plugs and connectors, and with all the correct voltages.

Ummm, no. It would not appear you are getting to that point - and you will not be able to update the BIOS if the machine does not even begin to boot.

If me, I would pull everything out of the case again, ensuring you observe good ESD control. Install one stick of RAM, the CPU with properly attached heatsink fan assembly, keyboard, the monitor, and no hard drives. Connect the PSU, and short the two pins to fire up the computer. You should see the GPUs splash screen and the start of POST, where it will fail when it cannot find a drive.

those "bubbles " aren't mounts, they are where the standoffs screw into. the case should have come with the standoffs needed to mount the board.

:eek I hope you are wrong ibbonkers and that I did not misunderstand what the Capt meant. :-o

That said, @ Capt Drift, did this barebones system come with the motherboard pre-mounted in the case? If so, and since this has not worked from day one, I would still verify the motherboard mounting is correct, and that each "bubble" meets with a motherboard mounting hole, AND that there are NO extra bubbles under there under no hole. There must not be any direct contact between the motherboard bottom and the case, except though a motherboard mounting screw. The motherboard must not just sit on the case surface.

And just to be sure, below is a standoff and motherboard mounting screw. The standoffs are screwed into specific case holes, as determined by the mounting hole locations on the motherboard being installed. The screws secure the board to the standoffs. Note these, and only these mounting points are also used by the motherboard designers as electrical "ground" (Earth). Extra standoffs would but an electrical ground where it does not belong.

    Thank you forthe help,
Ihave found out that the AMD 7750+ is not supported by that board!!,
But on the board is says M3N78-VM/V3-M3N8200, and has a different CPU compatibility list to the normal M3N78-vm:confused

I too am still stuck, though it seems that my thread has fallen by the wayside.

I've done all the above mentioned steps and even swapped out processors and motherboards with a known good combo and still nada.

I'm 1 step away from taking it to the local computer repair shop and having it tested out just out of shear curiosity, even though I've already ordered a replacement combo. :banghead

According the CPU compatibility Chart for that board, it does support the 7450+, 7550+, and the 7750+, starting with BIOS version 0905. I note that 0907 appears to be the latest.

I think you should pull everything out of the case and assemble it on a non-conductive surface, like a big wooden cutting board. Install one stick of RAM, NO drives, the monitor, CPU and HSF, and the PSU. Then short the two power-on pins on the motherboard's front panel I/O header to start up the computer. You should see on the monitor the graphics solution splash screen, the start of the boot process, then it will fail when it cannot find a boot drive. If you don't get this far, then one or more components are bad.

Note - Did (and do) you take all the necessary ESD precautions while handling the boards (any printed circuit board), CPU, RAM and other components to ensure no static discharge from your body destroyed ESD sensitive devices? Note a static discharge from your fingers can EASILY destroy these devices, yet be so tiny in potential, you, as a human, would not even be aware a discharge occurred. You must always touch bare metal of the case before and frequently while reaching inside the case - this puts you and the computer at the same "potential". And when there is no "difference in potential" there can be no discharge. When working outside the case, you can keep a finger in contact with a screw mounting hole on the motherboard - these are at electrical ground (Earth) for the system.

    Thank you Digerati,
I have now tested with another processor a sempron LE 1250 and still nothing
I have worn a wrist band when handling.
I have tried what you suggested and still no display, I have now ontacted overclockers to see what they say.
There are 2 compatibility charts, 1 for the motherboard M3N78-VM and 1 for the barbone system V3-M3N8200 with different lists and the Sempron LE 1250 is on both.

    Just to update you all,
I have recieveda replacement barbone PC, I installed the RAM, CPU and tested and I got display and could enter the BIOS, so all good, then added drives and tested- still fine,
Then installed windows and fine, added graphics card and fine, then isntalled all the updates and now working a dream.
I am running the AM2 1250LE processor, and will upgrade the bios later so i can run the Black Edition CPU.
NEarly finished installing all WOW software.
    So thumbs up to overclockers.

I would recommend you run Secunia PSI - this is a great program that will scan your system, tell you what is outdated, and even help you update it. It does want to run full time in your System Tray - but I don't think that is necessary once you have your computer up to date. After that, you can run PSI once every week or so.

    Thanks for the followup.
