alright, well, somehow a virus or something managed to get into my desktop, and now, first of all it won't boot up unless I place the Vista disk in there, and when I do, I only have the option of installing it...sort of. As when I go to install it somewhere, the normal HDD doesn't show up anywhere and I honestly don't think that it's even working...does anyone have a remedy for this? or can it be fixed at all?

sucks too because I had everything on there...and didn't get my external HD in time in order to back up everything...I'm pissed :mad

well, I bought a new HD, but I cant install driver's on it, it's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 and on their site it says that they don't require driver's for it, so should I just install the Vista OS onto it directly?

I'm not positive if my computer even sees this drive to be honest with you, and it doesn't have a legacy power option, so I'm wondering if I have to go buy a SATA Power Cord just to make sure that it does start working, would I be right in assuming so?

    anybody?

If you want help, it is best to post information about your computer: brand and model, OS and any service packs that are installed.
Also if the drive is a SATA, some require that you load the drivers before windows starts.
Without knowing anything about your computer, it is impossible to know what is required for the computer to recognize a SATA drive.

Your posts are a little vague i think, but basically it sounds like your original HDD won't boot Vista, and you got a new HDD to replace it. If you were asking, you do have to plug in a SATA power connector to the HDD along with the SATA data cable (unless your HDD has a molex power connector also, which is rare these days).

As for drivers, Vista setup should not need drivers just for a SATA drive. You should be able to install Vista directly on it.
