Recently downgraded laptop from Win8 to Win7. Now Device manager lists none of the drivers installed for the USB controller, SM Bus Controller, Network Controller or Ethernet Controller. As I am finding all of this means I can't access the internet to download drivers. The Acer support page seems to only let me download to the computer connected and not to a file for CD transfer. Oh and I can't boot from CD either. Did I do something wrong or is this normal. What do I do next to get this laptop up and running. Probably something simple but I am new to this and stumped.

I am getting this error message when I tried to connect to WindowsUpdates

Did you go to the manufacturer's page before downgrading to see if Win 7 was supported? If the manufacturer doesn't have Win 7 drivers, then you might have this behavior because you do not have the chipset drivers installed.

SM Bus controllers are not needed anyway, Windows does their 'job' silently.

Which Acer model is it exactly?
