Hi all, firstly I'm a new member, and my knowledge on computing doesn't extend much further than the basics, so take it easy on me !.

Now to the important stuff: about two months ago I accidentally (ACCIDENTALLY) snapped my screen off its hinges, but the wires are still connected to the screen and I get a good picture through my external screen (TV). However, as thread title suggests, both my forms of connection don't work. I've tried everything from repairing network connection (failed at trying to connect to the internet) to rebooting, and running command prompts such as 'ipconfig' and I'm still no closer. Can anyone help me it is it a lost cause ?.

    Thanks in advance.

Just a quick note: firewalls are turned off and I'm set to obtain an ip automatically. I'm also enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks :)

The wireless aerial in a laptop is often behind the screen, if the 2 wires of the aerial are shorted, that would account for the lack of wireless but I can't see that affecting a LAN connex. Try finding your wireless card - I'm assuming it's a mini-PCI installed under a flap on the underside of the laptop - and carefully popping off/disconnecting the aerial wires. Reboot and test the LAN.

It's a notebook. There's no flap, per se, but there is a small rectangular sized thing that requires a screwdriver. I suppose that's probably it !.

    Notebook/laptop = interchangeable, netbook is different ;)

Only 1 flap/panel? Hmm, that might just be for the RAM then, can you take a 'photo, resize and attach it or give the full make/model/serial# of the notebook?

Well, it's an ASUS 'Eee PC 1005/ 1001 series. Windows XP Home Edition. Still trying to find the serial number.

    Like 1005HA or ... ?

This is a netbook ;) Because of their restricted size, many of these use non-standard parts, it's vital to know exactly which model it is so we can track down any peculiarities. Try this page for clues.
