NO IP address, could it be a virus or host issue?

I have lost my IP address on my PC. I am currently using a laptop for the internet, when I check the IP address I get 0.0.0.0. I am using Windows XP on a Sony Vaio computer. Any ideas on how to restore it.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a question that belongs in the Networking Forum not here.

    Would need more information, like:
    - are you on a network
    - do you use a router, if not, do you use a cable or DSL modem
    - if you use cable or DSL, does the ethernet card (NIC) activity LED come on when you plug in the cable
    - are you setup for DHCP or do you use static IPs

Again this really belongs in the Networking Forum.

I have DSL with a Modem, no routers attached. I have tried the Ethernet cable and USB cable with no luck. I tried typing in the IP address and subnet that my laptop was using on the PC and use that as a static address but still didn't have any luck. I will post something in the networking area to see if I can get some answers there.

    Thanks.

As I said before, make sure the ethernet card's LED shows physical connectivity.

Did you setup the connection just like you did for your Laptop? That is, I assume your Laptop was probably set for DHCP.
