    Hello all,

Ok here goes...I have xp home and have installed all updates/sp2 and all office updates..Office XP sp3. Now after rebooting my logon screen is missing users. It tells me to select user to logon....but there are none to choose from, my only option is shut down. Anyone heard of this??? Please help me if you can.

    Thanks
    MPC458

well i want to get rid of my log on screen altogether so the pc loads straight instead of having to press enter half way through which is a fruitless exercise

I am not sure but try booting in 'Safe Mode' which would bring up all accounts available including the "Admin" account that could become hidden on a single user system.

Did this problem start right after updating WindowsXP servicepack?

There are way to do it, even directly within the registry but my suggestion, you download XP Powertoy TweakUI and do it with ease. ;)

When you get to the login screen where you were supposed to see the accounts press CTRL+ALT+DEL and see what it does. This should give you the option to login as the admin, then using the XP Powertoy TweakUI you could modify the LOGON settings. Hope this helps. ;)

Well, I wish you had tried my latest suggestion before you followed the Hell Tech's advise.....at this point a clean install seems like the wisest choice...

Again try the Last Known Good Configuration and also Safe Mode, other than that, I got nothing more. If anyone else got anything else to say, by all means....
    Take Care.

Well I'm back again with this problem. Reinstalled OS, Updated and back to sq1. No LOGONS created 2 users with no passwords but they dont show up after last updates. Ctl-Alt-Del brings up logon box with users name...leave password bland "since ther's not one" and get The system could not log you in.........! If the passwords did not exist then why cant I get in? Tried Administrator/ no password WRONG Administrator/Administrator WRONG! What does one do now?

Wish I had seend this before you reinstalled. I worked on, and fixed this EXACT issue today. Its registry corruption.

    Now you are toast :(

When you reinstalled, all your previous registry backups were deleted.

Ok, so, you have not reinstalled since this started happening again?

The only thing I've done so for was a repair.

So you did a repair, after this problem ocurred.

Thats what I am saying--its game over.

I worked with a client for several hours today trying to track down what registry entry did it, I never did find it and had to rollback the registry. If you did a repair, then it deleted your registry backups.

Maybe someone knows something I don't and will speak up.

But don't be surprised if you end up doing the format, reinstall song and dance.

OK, so I'm reinstalling yet again...What do you think caused this? I would like very much not to run into this again.

In my client's case, he was playing with semi-incompatible drivers and something corrupted.

We are not for sure if that is what did it, but he had done nothing else, and it was a clean install.

Do you think it might be an update from the Softies?
