no network adaptor for tcp/ip

I will start at the beginning



Computer is a HP Pavilion s7220n Slimline PC



1/ Computer would not boot & recovery would freeze

2/ Tried a disk repair & that froze

3/ Cut my losses & reformatted

4/ Installed a copy of xp pro



XP boots & everything works fine apart from the internet connection the only network adaptor it recognises is the1394 net adaptor



5/ Downloaded all updates available for 7220 & tried to install

6/ some updates wont install because i obviously deleted the original copy.



All i really care about is getting back online to do that i need the computer to recognise & install the tcp/ip network adaptor



How do i do this?

What do i need to download/install to get the hardware & driver to work



Any & all help & advice would be greatly appreciated

 

Sounds like you may need drivers for the adapter.

Go get Everest and use it on that machine to show what your adapter is exactly, then you can locate the drivers for it (Google works great for that) and make sure they are the most current available. That may help. If not, I'm sure that we'll come up with more solutions. The general updates don't always have the updates you need, and personally, I trust Microsoft about as far as I can toss a city bus when it comes to having the right drivers...
