I changed my motherboard: put my old p4 1.7 and two 256 mb 2700 into a abit V17 socket 478, 400 watt psu, a new video card, soundblaster live 5.1, I will get nothing on the screen, the led on the monitor just flashes nothing..I switched the power switch wires aroung on the switch leads, I tried taking out and putting back in the Video card, and the memory, I took out the battery for 30 mins, I moved the jumpers on the CMOS, I even put my old video card in and nothing. So then I removed the motherboard and put rubber washers in-between the posts and mobo and then washers in-between the screws and the mobo. I don't even get a sound from the PC speaker, but yet all the fans come on and the lights. Also the power button will not turn it off after it turns it on, the reset works because the CD rom will light up..but the floppy will not light up..no nothing on the screen..
I don't know what to do and I'm at my in-laws on there puter and they are on dial-up and I'm not here long can someone please help as I only have a hour or so until I leave and I have no other puter at home..

Looks like it's the mobo hey???I think I'll call abit tech support and if that doesn't work then I'll take it in to a computer tech..I just don't think he'll be able to do anything???I just don't want to have to return the mobo because I just returned a video card..these people are going to think that I'm a idiot???

what i like to do is to put the motherboard on a towel and connect everything outside of the case. that way i have easy access to every part and to make sure its not grounding out on the case.

I called a-bit and they said that it is probably the CPU, it is of the older variety (wellington I think) they said most of the new boards are made for the new P4's, so therefore the board runs at a different voltage and won't boot. I did not know this and now I'm going to try and talk to the retailler and see If I can return the board (under compatablity it states socket 478 P4). I think that I will go with a combo (if they let me return it): AMD 64 2800 with a Chaintech mobo with the NVIDIA chipset, it works out to the same price as getting a new 2.8 P4 with 800 FSB, 1 GiG cache. Which is faster???? and more reliable??? Does the AMD 64 work well with old games and programs???? The reason I think that I need to get a new mobo is I found corrosion on alot of the capacitors on my old mobo and I think that is why I was having problems in the first place!!!

Running win XP home, SB live, Chaintech FX5700, PC2700 512mb ram, LG cdrw, 80 gig hard drive...

Please let me know quick as I would like to phone them and get all this sh#t behind me..and I really value your opinions..
    Thanks,
    B

Sorry that's 1meg chache on the P4, or a 3.0 processor with 1 meg cache and 800 mhz FSB for an extra $30.00
