Ok all who know JOTS(joey off the streets) know he has had his fair share of problems as we all have. Now they have hit again only this time he can't post himself as he has no power to his pc. What I got from him is that the power went off and when it came back on his son tried to turn on the pc and nothing happened. No lights no bells no nothing. Don't know if he had a surge protector(I would assume he did but that's a bad habit of mine..assuming)He did say he replaced the power cord and checked the "fuse in plug?"Not sure unless he meant the plugged in fuse. Not sure if it has a battery.(for the clock maybe) Not sure if he checked the outlet that his pc is plugged into. He would greatly appreciate any suggestion's. I will be calling him back by Wed when and if we get any post between now and then.
We both thank you in advance.

Hmmm... a bit lite on info. If there's no lights, no beep, nothing, then the power supply has likely failed. I'm not familiar with JOTS system or his previous issues (and I've been around MG for awhile now), but it does appear to be a bad power supply. They are known to fail due to power surges, spikes, dropouts, failures, whatever. Even a good surge protector is very little protection against power wackiness. However, some surge protectors come with 'protection plans' and if it's registered with the manufacturer after purchasing, they will provide up to $X amount if you can prove that the unit did not protect the PC from power damage, but this can be hard to prove, and few people actually register their surge protectors (the same policy applies to most battery backup UPS units).

The last time I saw this happen, it was a dead motherboard... which would suck as much as a dead PSU.

    Try this:

Open the case so you can see what's happening. Then plug in the PC in a different outlet in a different room, and see if any LEDs on the motherboard come on or not. If they do, try unplugging it again, check all cables and connectors inside the case, and then hook up monitors and speakers to get as much info from the system as possible before plugging it back in and trying to power it on again. Make a note of any and all beep codes or errors on the screen. Also pay attention to if the CPU fan comes to life and if there is hard drive activity or not.

I was wondering why he hasn't posted in a while! :)

@dlb> This is what i said also. But I was looking at another thread here and was similar to JOTS but the difference was this person had replaced the power supply and it still didn't turn on. He was then told "to unplug power supply, pull battery out of mother board, hold down on-off button for a few seconds, let set a few minutes, and try again.
He said he Reseated the SDRAM cards, all internal cables, one more time. Then it came up A-OK."
Don't know if that would work with JOTS Dell or not but I will advise him again to check his power supply. Thanks

Thanks Mimsy. I'll wait until 12 noon Wednesday an copy all the replies to my notepad that way I can read them back to him when I call and he can try them out

Try that too. Based on the info we have so far, I'd say it's a coin-flip if it'll work or not, but it won't cause any damage, and if Joey is completely without a computer right now, he certainly has nothing to lose by trying a CMOS reset. There's dead computers, and then there's mostly dead computers... there is a difference. ;)

I subscribed to the thread, post back if you need more help. :)
