I have built 2 computers in the past and have had no problems. I just put together a new one and it will not power up. I am not sure what to check. I have an ecs (elitegroup) c51gm-m mother board with a socket am2. I have a AMD athlon 64 X2 dual-core 4200+ processor made for socket am2. I have a Powork 600 watt 24 pin power supply model pw-600. I have 1 gig (2 512) sticks of Corsair ddr2-800 ram model #twin2x1024a-6400. When I hook everything up and hit power nothing happens. What should I check and what could the problem be?

only thing i can think of is that the 2x2 mobo power cable isnt plugged in. That happened to me once... Double check all of your power cables and make sure they're all plugged in

    :D Welcome to MGs :D

That was my first thought. I tried an old power supply I had with the same result. I checked again just in case and everything is plugged in.

Are you sure the mobo isn't being grounded?

Take the mobo out and put on a non-conductive surface...see if it will fire up ..just have video, ram and dpu attached ...see if it will get past bios check...fans light, etc.
Also try a different power switch ...was changing out ps's left and right until I realized the switch wasn't working.

Ok. That was the problem. How do I keep the mobo from from grounding when I put it back in?
    P.S. Thanks.

Either your case has stand offs ...or the mobo came with stand off ...or the screws have washers .....check your mobo manual.
