No problems, just a question?

I have WinXP/SP2 Home. I don't do anything technical on my computer. Somehow I have acquired Microsoft .net framework 1.1 and Microsoft .net framework 2.0. From what I've read, these programs are for IT professionals and creating websites, etc. Is it safe to delete these two programs or could other programs on my machine depend on them?

Indeed, the .NET framework is for IT professionals and developers. While it can't hurt to leave on your system, it certainly will not hurt to remove it.

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I needed to know.

Some programs are now being written that require .net to be installed. Without .net they won't run.

It's not necessarily just for IT professionals or developers, it depends on the version.

A lot of programs these days are written using it and require it to be installed.

Best thing to do is to just leave it.

not entirely true.. this is a subject this is soooo misunderstood it boggles the mind. It's a framework that software uses to run on; an environment if you will . As the previous poster stated, some applications require it to be installed on your system for them to function.

.NET is not for IT people alone.. end users should get used to it being on their system as it will not harm anything what so ever.

Thanks everybody for the input. I will just leave it alone and not worry about it anymore.

The reason I asked about it was I noticed I had .net framework 1.1 and also 2.0 (which I believe is a beta). I decided to delete 2.0 from add/remove, but it gave me a message that deleting might cause other programs not to work properly. I still wonder if I need both versions?

I've got some programs on my computer that require Framework 1.1 and others that require Framework 2.0. I would have expected that programs developed for version 1.1 would be compatible with version 2.0, but this apparently doesn't always apply.

Both versions will work quite happily side by side though, so my advice would be to leave them be. (this anomoly might be corrected in version 2.1)

    Regards, Blueheeler.
