    Hi,

I have gotten a hijacker. In order to get rid of it I know I will need to be able to boot into Safe Mode. Right now my computer has a problem with booting into Safe Mode. I think its unrelated to my computer catching a hijack.

    I have windows XP

    The symptoms are :

I press F8 and select safemode, it starts scrolling a list of files its loading,

it gets to .....system32/drivers/mup.sys and then the disk goes for a while then it seems to get hung up.

    Any advise is so appreciated

OK, two things i can say here. First off some computers will take a long time loading that file(like 5 mins or so). So make sure you're giving it enough time. It really shouldn't take that long, and it might be a sign of other problems, although usually it will load.

Secondly, why do you want to get into safemode? If the computer is booting into windows normally you don't actually need to get into safe mode to fix it.

all of the threads I have read about hijackers have parts where you do a bunch of stuff then reboot into safe mode do some more stuff then you reboot and are done. Since the hijackers have ways of undoing the changes you make as you make them dont you need safe mode?
