I just upgraded to vista, but now my sound is no longer there. When I open my audio options it doesn't have an option for an output device and I can't get anything from my speakers or headphones. My sound card is the intel integrated sound from alien, but when I look up the drivers on the alienware website they don't include drivers for the integrated sound options. Im using a laptop so I don't think there is much choice as far as upgrading to a real sound card. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

    Hi

What model Alienware Laptop is this, know that you checked for drivers but the audio chip could be from various makers so the specs of that PC or its motherboard used may hold a clue.

Also have you re-booted and then checked Windows Update for any driver udpates?

Have you installed the Chipset driver is listed at Alienware for Vista? as in many cases this needs to be installed irst before the OS will recognise and install other components.

In Device Manager are their any yellow ! marks and if so what next to and do the properties if listed hold a cluse as to the devices name/make and function?

My computer is an area 51 M5700 from what I have seen the chipset is not listed on the alienware website probably due to the fact that my computer is 3 years old. I've determined that the chipset is Intel 915GM/PM express and I have downloaded and installed corresponding drivers from the intel site. Upon installation I now have speakers in my playback devices under my sound options but they are "unplugged" It makes no difference if I plug in headphones. I have restarted the computer since installing the drivers and it remained the same. I have been installing windows updates since I upgraded and nothing has changed. There are no "!" in the device manager.

I just found a driver that works for me so now I have music, but any idea how I can get my volume control on the side of my laptop to control my volume? This isn't a major issue for me more of a convenience item

    Hi

Glad to hear (pun.. sorry) that your audio is working now, which is good, with reference to your smart keys, media keys I dont know what Alienware call theiur version of these to locat a driver, did find reference to FingerTouch, but no drivers for your model.

Do you still have a driver CD for this PC if so look on their for a FingerTouch, Media Keys, Smart Keys, Function Keys etc reference to a driver this may help locate the maker so we can find some Vista drivers for this.

looks like your talking about the keys on the top of my keys that control the fan, email, media, and help functions which I did manage to find drivers for what I am looking for is the little volume control wheel that is on the left side that used to physically control the volume of the speakers independent of software volume control slider.
