I recently formatted my roommates computer and there doesn't seem to be any sound card. The card itself is a no name brand that was attached to the mother board. Is there a way to get the drivers for it or have windows look for it ?

"The card itself is a no name brand that was attached to the mother board."

Just to be clear, are you saying that there is an actual physical expansion card in a slot (PCI/ISA) on the motherboard, or did you really mean "onboard" sound, as in 'microchip(s)' on the motherboard?

If you look up his laptop model on the manufacturer's website, they almost always will have driver downloads there.

Where in the post does it indicate a model number? For that matter, how do you know it's a laptop as opposed to a desktop system?
