    Hi

Suddenly within the last few days, my sound has disappeared. My system no longer recognises my microphone or speakers.

The last time this happened to me, I had installed a new version of Skype and when I uninstalled it, that fixed the problem.

This time, I haven't downloaded anything new but uninstalled Skype and it made no difference.

I have done a system restore to the day when I last had sound but no joy there either.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

Are you using Onboard sound or do you have a sound card installed, give us the specs of your computer and we all will have a better chance of helping :)

 Hi. You might try downloading new drivers and reinstalling. If you don't know what type of sound card you have, you can download, install and run Belarc Advisor from this site and probably quickly find out. Good night and good luck.

    Hi

Sorry, I didn't see these responses. This problem is still happening - after I thought the culprit was Skype, it appeared to be caused by Yahoo messenger but uninstalling that didn't help.

It still comes and goes. As far as I know I have a sound card but it's no longer listed on the Sounds and Audio Devices or Device Manager.

My thoughts are that something is conflicting but I don't know what. Any ideas please?

    Thanks

Latest update - ran all sorts of cleaners yesterday and today my sound driver has been identified as Intel(r) Integrated audio - so presume not an external card after all. However, although I can see Media Player playing away, I still get no actual sound through my speakers - an improvement though!

Hi again.. go into Control Panel then choose 'Sounds and Audio Devices' then the 'Audio' tab and check that your default Device is the Intel one you said, whilst there check 'Volume' (volume control) that it is activated/on. ;)

Thanks but I had done all that. I actually opened up the PC and checked that all the boards were secure, put it back together and bingo! Heaven knows if that was the fix though.
