    Posted this in the drivers forum, but now I don't think it has to do with the drivers as I borrowed a friends PCMCIA sound card and it's coming up as drivers missing or corrupted.

    My system did a memory dump and now I have no sound. In the device manager, the Realtek AC'97 is there but says the driver is corrupt or missing (CODE39). I've uninstalled it/reinstalled it. Deleted the old driver files, downloaded/installed new ones and still get the same error. Thanks in advance for any help. Below is my Belarc profile:

    EDIT: Removed your Licence and Serial Codes from your Belarc report to items like your XP, Office etc products and attached the edited report :)

    Hi NBP and welcome to MajorGeeks
    Repairing codecs, re-installing sound drivers can often make a strong man humble, especially when the "fix" didn't work.
    Run Device Manager: Start=>Run=>devmgmt.msc
    Under the Sound-Video-Game Controllers section delete each codec, every driver and all devices that exists there. Everything must go. This may seem drastic, but it's gotten me out this particular jam many times.
    Then shut the machine down. This is crucial. With sound drivers and the like, doing an immediate re-install after deletion, doesn't seem to work. You need to shut that computer off.
    On restart, log on as administrator or equivalent, and then begin re-installing the codecs and drivers. Windows sometimes even helps out a bit by finding a "fresh" copy of the correct drivers already on the machine.
    :)

    Thanks for replying Prometheos. I uninstalled like you said, restarted and upon reboot, Windows found all the drivers/codecs. After installing them though, they would say that it couldn't start this hardware. Saying that there is the corrupt or missing driver (Code 39) still. Any suggestions?

    I am not real sure what is wrong with our puter. We had sound before the infamous bravesentry trojan hit us. Now I have gotten rid ot Bravesentry but now we have no sound. I checked what device we have: system is Win. XP and the device is a Aida32pe_393 [1]. So, does this help? Is there anything else I need to do? I have never had this problem so it is all new to me.

    Oh. . . I also checked the properties window for my sound and everything in there is locked up so I can't change anything. It says no adio device???
    Just last week we had audio! What could have locked that up?:confused:

    Hi NBP
    Here's what I would try. Download a fresh copy of your MainBoard drivers.
    Run Device Manager: Start=>Run=>devmgmt.msc
    Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    Select "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" then on the Device Manager's icon bar click the "disable" icon or else open Action=>Disable
    If this device was causing interference, Windows will now exclude it.
    If "AC97 Soft Spkerphone Modem with SmartSP" is in the Sound section, I would disable this also.
    With these devices quarantined ( there should be a red X next to the device driver's name) close Device Manager and restart the computer.
    If it was interference from "legacy" devices then the RealTek device driver will now be able to load. If it's a corrupted device driver, then (CODE 39) will still be reported, however you can now install your fresh copy of your MainBoard drivers.
    Best of luck.:)

    Prometheos, I checked all the devices and they all said that they are enabled and active. . . BUT I still don't have any sound. I can't find where the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device is tho. I looked all over the folder and didn't see it. I have restarted my puter and never got a (Code39). I don't understand where I can get the drivers for the motherboard either. can you clairify that for me please? I am sorry for being such a pain, but this is all new to me and I really want to learn how to do this for future situations! Thank you so much!

    I just tried my Media Player and I had gotten this message:
    A yellow triangle w/ ! and it said: Cannot play the audio stream: No audio hardware is available or the hardware is not responding.
    Does that help you in any way? :rolleyes:
