    Hi,

I'm posting here only because this may be malware but I don't know for sure.

I continue to receive a message that says "No update has be found" once or twice a day. The irregular grammar plus the fact that I haven't been looking for an update to anything causes me to wonder why I'm receiving this message. The last program that I installed was CleanMyPc but I uninstalled it. I decided that registry cleaners are worse for a pc than registry items that are no longer needed.

I then did a Windows Repair because of boot problems that I was having and it fixed that problem. I received the message prior to and after the Repair.

I have Windows XP Pro x64.

I've run Avast and MBAM on full and they found nothing.

Does anyone know what's causing this message to appear?

Unknown as to what this is. Obviously it is from something that is running.

Did you run SUPERAntiSpyware? You should.

Run the current version of MGtools and attach the log.

    What firewall are you using?

Are you using a Gigabyte MB? I saw references to this possibly being from their ET6 or Energy Saver software trying to do an auto update.

Note: You should not be posting this in multiple forums. Yes I know we did not answer you right away as we are just that busy with malware (which this probably is not). But other security forums ( at least the good ones) are also very busy.

    Hi Chaslang . . .

I ran SUPERAntySpyware but it didn't see it as malware either.

I use Windows firewall and I have a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 mobo. Gigabyte does automatically update but I've never had a problem receiving them before, but this could be Gigabyte looking to see if I have the newest update, which I do, so it's sending me the message.

I didn't realize that I posted this thread in 2 forums. I've been trying to find out what it is for a couple of months and I don't remember that I had already posted it. . . sorry.

I downloaded MGTools but haven't run it yet because the instructions say to reboot at a certain point. I'm in the middle of processing some files and can't reboot for a few hours. When I'm able to fully run the program, I'll post the MGTools log.

    Thanks Chaslang. :)

    Hi Chaslang . . .

I ran MGTools. This is the log file that it created. From the instructions, I was expecting 3 logs files. I kept receiving the message "Hit any key to continue." When I did, it ran 4 times and the last time I hit a key, nothing happened.

You have the update service running......you can do two things:

    1) Go to start / run / type "services.msc" without quotes and when the window opens, scroll down to the gigabytes update service (GBTUpd) double click it and disable it.

    2) We can run a reg. patch if needed ( after you do #1 and see if that stops it):

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

As you know this is not a malware issue and you can post in the software section if you need additional assistance. :)

Let us know what you did and how it is working. :)

    Hi Chaslang . . .

Since it's not malware, I'll leave it as it is. I've received a few updates from Gigabyte, not exactly sure what they are though. The message doesn't bother me but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't malware, and I wasn't sure until you mentioned it. Thanks for your help :)

Not a problem....and you could do as I mentioned in the first option, except set it to manual. That way you are not nagged and you can still get updates when you want to look for them.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
