Hi, looking for help because I know nothing about computers.

Im connected to internet fine by ethernet cable but when I try to connect to my wireless it tells me it might be out of range and to refresh. I'm right next to the modem.

    Any ideas how to fix?

Hey saltychops welcome to MGs. What Service Pack are you running. Service Pack 1 doesn't support wireless. Are you using a desktop or laptop ?? Have checked your wireless drivers or checked to see if the modem recognizes your wireless network ??

Hi, Nick. I havent the faintest Idea what you are talking about. Using a
Toshiba Equium M40X-103? I think. Windows XP

How do I check the modem?

Its been on wireless before, just not here.

Right click on My Computer and you should see the Service Pack under the words Windows XP Professional or Home then the Service Pack version. Then while you are there look at the tab that says Hardware, click it then click Device Manager and find your wireless driver right click to open the dropdown then click Update Driver. Also open your wireless utility using the icon in the right hand bottom of your task bar and make sure your security key(numbers) are correct or disable the utility then enable it again. On a personal note, I have to run off on a family matter, hopefully someone will pick up on this for you, I will be back later. Good luck.

Make sure the required service is running.

Open the Windows RUN command dialog from the Start menu or press Winkey+R.

    Enter services.msc and select OK.

Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and double click it.

Set the Startup Type to Automatic and click Apply

    Then click the Start button.

    Thanks for your help,
    Using a laptop
    Its service pack 2.
I dont know if I found the wireless driver. I found Wireless network connection???
and Where are the security key numbers?

I clicked on wieless icon. It says:
    (General Tab)
    Connection status: Connected
    Duration: 00:17:08
    Speed: 400.0 mbps

    Activity:

    Packets: Sent - 0 / Recieved 0

Then if I click on support tab it says:

    Address Type:
    IP address:
    Subnet Mask:
    Gateway:

Then if I click on Repair, it says:
TCP?IP is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed.
