Here are the reviews from PCWorld.

I see AVG being recommended here at the forums frequently, but should Nod32 be recommended instead?

    Nod32
    • Malware detection rate: 90%
    • Proactive detection: 79%
    • System slowdown: 5%
    • Ease of use: Very Good
    • False-positive detections: 6

NOD32 has the best proactive protection by far, but its overall malware detection is second-tier, and it has an overly technical interface.

    Malware detection rate: 91%
    • Proactive detection: 34%
    • System slowdown: 2%
    • Ease of use: Good
    • False-positive detections: 1

The least-expensive program we tested, AVG has average overall malware detection, the worst proactive protection, and a clunky interface.

i think it all comes down to personal choice. if someone finds one they like they tend to stick with it. avast was recomended to me when i first joined MG's and i have used it with no problems ever since.but im sure others have tried avast and didnt rate it at all.

Heres another thing to keep in mind, not saying its the case here but ....

Reviews can be skewed to prove what people like is best. To much depends on the reviewer, ie virus downloaded/attempted to test the antivirus, websites visited, settings inside the program used, ideally we would like to think all these tests are fairly, but honstantly i doubt thats the case. Just a bit to keep in mind when reading any software reviews/tests/comparisions.

Spyware Blaster does not have real-time protection, so yes, Spyware Terminator might be a good addition. Just make sure you don't have any other anti-spyware apps with real-time protection as running two will add a lot of overhead to your system, and will cause conflicts when the two lock the same file.

Currently I use NOD32, SpywareBlaster, Spybot S+D, Superantispyware.

NOD32 is head and shoulders above the free version of AVG. Go to www.av-comparatives.org for more tests on detection. AVG has improved a lot in recent tests, but if you have the cash, get yourself a copy of NOD32. You wont be disappointed. :)

While I agree that NOD32 has better detection rates, I would argue that the choice of AV product is far less important than using the internet safely.

AVG will suffice as long as you're not going out downloading sexy asian screensavers, or anything as comparable.
