Can anyone tell me where I can download a free NON-YouTube video downloader, that is, a program to download videos from websites other than YouTube?

    Thanks, Imandy.

For this install, I disabled Bittorrent protocol support. Not only have I heard that Bittorrent is a security vulnerability, but there was this warning from Free Download Manager itself:
    Comments?

Also, this program tried to put itself in the Startup list and install an Internet Explorer add-on, but fortunately WinPatrol tipped me off (Thanks Eldon), so I rejected those changes.

    Good Morning Skull

Like you, I don't use the torrent side of it at all. I don't ever do any torrenting. I have ran FDM as a startup and also as non-startup at different times. Same with IE11 and IE8 as an add-on enabled and disabled. It is pinned to my start button list so when I want to download something if it's not already enabled all I do is launch it and it goes to the taskbar. It has 3 speeds for traffic mode. I have always used it on fastest. Also I use 10 for the number of connections. It will launch for pdf's, flv's, msi's, zip, exe and most other downloadable content. I have a Download folder with sub folders for Software, Music, Video, Archive, PDF and as it is used it will put the file in the right folder. If you lose track of a file you can go to the main window and select open file location to find where it went.

I did have a period where IE would show a "not working" pop up and the description showed 'fdm.dll' as the problem. It always cleared on it's own. I upgraded to the later version and cleared it up. I still keep Freemake as a backup for some video the fdm won't get for whatever reason.

    Hi guys
Do you know how to download audio from the internet (this is what I am trying to download...http://www.recoveryaudio.org/higher-power-speaker-tapes
Is there a way of downloading files to MP3 files in bulk? Once I get MP3 files I want to copy to my ipod.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for this recommendation. I have been using FDM now, and I like it.

But like YouTube Downloader, FDM only handles Flash Video.

I want to download video from Facebook.

But I understand that Facebook supports all of the following video formats:

    • 3g2/3gp/3gpp (Mobile Video)
    • wmv/asf (Windows Media Video)
    • avi (AVI Video)
    • dat (MPEG Video)
    • divx (DIVX Video)
    • dv (DV Video)
    • f4v/FLV (Flash Video)
    • m2ts (M2TS Video)
    • mkv (Matroska Format)
    • mod (MOD Video)
    • mov/qt (QuickTime Movie)
    • mp4/m4v/mpeg4 (MPEG-4 Video)
    • mpe/mpeg/mpg (MPEG Video)
    • mts (AVCHD Video)
    • nsv (Nullsoft Video)
    • ogm/ogv (Ogg Media Format)
    • tod (TOD Video)
    • ts (MPEG Transport Stream)
    • vob (DVD Video)

Does anybody know if there's any solution to this problem?

Anybody who isn't blocked by me here at MajorGeeks, that is? An answer isn't helpful to me if I can't see it, and as much as I'd like an answer to this question, I don't want it THAT bad...

Thanks, but when I right-click on the video, I don't get that drop-down menu that would allow access to a URL that I could copy.
Thanks, I downloaded it, and it looks like a nice program, but it needs a URL, and as I said above, I don't have access to the video's URL, just the URL of the Facebook page it's on.

If I play the video and let it end, then right-clicking on it yields a drop-down menu with 4 different options for downloading the video using FDM (which I have installed), but it shows no URL, and the file that gets downloaded is a .gif which doesn't even display as a static image.

    Ya got me...

    You could try this ;)

This is in fact the link to the actual "solution" offered by the guy answering the question at the link you previously provided, so I've already tried this. But I'll continue to research this, and if I find a solution, I'll report it here.

Well, if a video got on your feed by someone sharing it, rather than uploading it or posting a link, then the name of the video will appear underneath it. Then you can do this:

Right-click on the name of the video. This will open a SECOND Facebook page for just that video, with the URL
https://www.facebook.com/( some number )/videos/( some other number )

At this point you could go here, paste in the URL of your video, and hit Enter.

I would advise against this approach, because when I tried it, I got a pop-up saying that I MAY need to update Java, and the webpage then refused to allow me to proceed until I clicked on their link, which SUPPOSEDLY would have updated Java. I of course declined, smelling a rat.

So instead I took this approach:

Modify the URL of the current Facebook page as follows:
    Change "https" to "http".
    Change "facebook.com" to "downfacebook.com".

Hit Enter to go to a THIRD Facebook page whose URL is
http://video.downfacebook.com/download-facebook-video-( the 2nd of the 2 above numbers ).html

You'll see two buttons on the right:
    Download MP4 HD
    Download MP4 SD

Right-click on either button. A pop-up menu will appear. Click on "Save target as...".

I haven't found out yet how to download a video from Facebook that had simply been uploaded or just had a link to it, since neither of those scenarios have the name of the video underneath it, so there's nothing to right-click on to access the video's URL.

Of course, if the original Facebook video post in question is a link to a YouTube video and you've got YouTube Downloader, or if it's a link to any place at all that won't block your download and and you've got FDM, then no problem.
