    Hi everyone,
I am installing xp again. I lost my first disk so i got another one from microsoft. Here is whats happening. I boot the computer. It boots to CDRom. Then setup begins and windows loads some files. Then i get this error:

A proble has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent to prevent damage to your computer.

    SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart you computer.
If this screen appears again follow these steps.

Check to make sure hw and sw are properly installed.

    bla bla bla

    Technological Info:

    *** STOP: 0x0000006f (0xc0000020, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

What can i do about this. I have tried only booting up with my dvd, hdd, video, one stick of ram. I havent installed anything new?

Do you have a SATA hard drive?

I found that error message in a search and the problem turned out to be that Windows was having a problem with the SATA drive.

    Fatal Error
One of the components needed to run windows setup could not be installed.

    Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

[edit] this is a brand new disk. i just took it out of the retail box. there are no scratches or prints. this is wierd.

I would suspect your cd rom drive, not the cd itself.

Simple way to check the disk: Put the disk in a different machine that you know works. Open a command prompt. In every directory, do "copy *.* nul". That will cause your OS to open every file in the directory, parse through the whole thing, and then close them. If there's a damaged file on the CD, that will find it.

Xcopy will yell at you for directing it to copy to the NUL device. Chkdsk won't check CDs. So it's annoying.
