I rebooted my computer in safe mode. I then scanned it using Kaspersky recovery cd. It said nothing harmful was found. But now when I try restsarting it from the hard drive in normal mode it keeps booting up in safe mode. As a result I cannot log on to the network.

    Can somebody please help.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, Bishar.

Why did you boot into Safe Mode and run Kaspersky? Was it because of the 'booting to Safe Mode' problem, or did the symptom occur after the Kaspersky scan, or was there a preexisting condition that prompted you to boot and scan? Please make that more clear.

Also, do you have your Windows disk? You might want to run sfc /scannow, and insert the disk if prompted.

I was tryingto clean my PC of Malware. Since I could not get to this site to download the necessary programs to run for malware removal on the instructions it said to run in safe mode. That is the reason why. Also, I ran the Kaspersky after I rebooted in safe mode. I do not have my windows disk. I made this mistake on my work computer and now everytime in starts up in safe mode and does not allow me to log on.

    Please help :(

In safe mode you can access msconfig from a run prompt. Check that the start in normal mode box is selected.

When my computer is starting up I hit the F8 key to get into the setup mode. I made sure the normal mode was selected. But it still runs in safe mode.

Bishar, read BP's words again ;)
Once you are logged in, Start > Run > type "msconfig" (no " ") and hit Enter.

    Satrow,

I just cannot log on. When my computer boots up it goes to the safe mode and asks for a username and password. When I put in my username and password it says access denied. This is my work computer and to log on to get to the start menu and other icons like internet, etc we need a user name and pwd to log in. I can log in with the same pwd and username when my computer boots up in the normal mode.

    Hope I am making sense.

    Thank you.

Use Administrator with a blank password to login, this is the default setting.

Ok, time for a recap please.
The PC is set to logon to a Domain?

    Yes I believe so.

That puts us all into a different ballpark then :(

Can you reconnect the PC to it's original network?

    I do not think so.

You don't have the XP disc, you can't reconnect it to the original Domain, that really limits what you can do - is there any vital data that you need to recover?

I got into normal mode. Thank you for all your help.
