    Hi all,

I have Norton 2005 on disc that I want to install on my pc (winxp service pack 2) I had no problems before when i installed it but I lost all sotware installed when the pc went in for an upgrade. When I insert the disc I get the norton page asking if i want to browse the cd, exit or install. When i click on 'install' i get an error message saying basically ' the pc needs to have windows 2000 service pack 1 or higher, the application will now close'. or if i dont get that message i get one saying 'norton needs to be installed from an msi file' can someone help me out here. please.

    thankyou all

Strongly suggest that you dump "Norton" for other firewalls and antivirus, "Norton" just has way to many known issues for most of us. Hope that helps just a little, oh and bye the way Major Geeks have lots of "Freeware" antivirus's and firewall's to chose from that are ALL better than "Norton"

Cheers bud, will dump the norton disk in the bin, I already have windows firewall, AVG free, and AD-Aware should these be ok to protect my pc?

    thanks chuck,

I'd actually recommend using Zone Alarm Free instead of the windows firewall - the windows firewall is a "one-way" firewall; meaning it blocks access to your computer, but does not regulate or prevent programs on your computer from connecting to the internet.

In addition to Ad-Aware, I also use Spy-bot: Search and Destroy and a few others. Check out this page here at MG:

    Good stuff!

Hmmm I was reading this and I too use zone alarm, I like it, but after some internet speed problems I am wondering... Time Warner Cable is telling me that Zone Alarm may slow down your conection speed, and the site I use to test speed hints at the same (http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest) So I have been looking for a good firewall, and like everything else there is a ton of them out there I am just trying to see what is a really good one. I have used ZA for many years and never had any trouble with it, but...my speed is half what it should be, and the techs keep coming out and still can't make it happen, they suggested that I uninstall ZA and measure the speed using just Windows Firewall, yeah like thats gonna happen!
