our new computer came with a free version of avg.
we wanted norton so we uninstalled avg using add remove programs, and installed norton 08.
now we cannot turn ON advanced firewall. the little red X is displayed and saying we are at risk.
norton's live help guys told us to go to the AVG tech support site to see how to completly remove AVG.
it seems their site won't even let me ask them the question without a product #? since we uninstalled AVG, how can i get their attention to ask for help?
    or can someone here answer?

    thanks!!

Download the latest installation file of AVG from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html.

After downloading, start the installation and under the Select Setup Type dialog choose the Uninstall Product option at the bottom.

    Finish the uninstall process.

thank you! we are going to try that here in just a bit.
should i mention that we can't even find the button to turn advanced firewall on or off?
hopefuly, when we do your fix, things will become clear.

Just my two cents, I would highly recommend AVG over Norton for many reasons but it's up to you.:)

whelp,, we tried your suggestion with no luck. we never did see anywhere to click 'uninstall', untill it was installed?
so we tried again (1 hr. per download), same thing. never do see "select setup type".
do you think uninstalling norton and reinstalling it is worth a try?
at this point we are almost ready to drop norton as we have not been happy with the product or the service.
can we get your other 0.98 worth on the advantages of AVG?
does anyone know if norton would refund us since it has only been 3 days?

    thanks!!

I agree with BJ, you would be better off using AVG. It is not a resource hog and a lot less trouble than Norton's. These "malware guy's" know their business and would not endorse something they are not comfortable with.

Remove the Norton's product from Add/Remove in the control panel and then use the Norton Removal Tool below to make sure you get it completely uninstalled. AVG should run fine.

I have heard that Symantec is pretty good about refunds if you are not satisfied with the product.

None at all, I've been using AVG for a while now with no problems. Be sure you keep it updated, that's about it.

Also, Comodo Firewall is a good firewall to run with it.

just to keep you all informed,, symantic did indeed refund our money in only 2 days!
now trying to buy the full version of AVG but they have some error with the security code on our c.c. so i have to make the very expensive phone call!
(even 1-800 numbers cost from belize)
    thanks again!!
