I have Norton for my AV protection. Is it a good idea to have something like TrojanHunter as well as a gaurd (since it has a much larger trojans definitions database) or will this cause conflicts.

    Thanx

The reason why i was looking for something as well as Norton is because it did not pick up a trojan test i did (trojan simulator). When i downloaded the simulator nothing picked it up in real time, including Norton AV, MS Antispyware, Spywareblaster and Spywareguard.

Furthermore I did a full pc scan with nortons but it didnt find it, TrojanHunter did find it. Im confused.

That's one reason I always recommend AVG AntiVirus, ZoneAlarm Firewall and SpySweeper.

All the protection you need, and the best if you ask me personally.

You dont recommend anything else like spywareblaster, spywareguard etc?

Do u think i should just get rid of Nortons and use AVG Antivirus. If so is the free version enough.

    Ok Thanx.

to install another AV do you know how i should shut down Norton to do this? Is it just turning off the auto protect? Also when doing other scans do i shut it down like this?

I'm not saying they are bad, for free programs they are great programs. Personally, yes I would get rid of Norton and go with AVG AntiVirus. Yes, the free version is good enough, its what I use.

If you install another antivirus, Norton should be uninstalled not shut down.

Ok, i think it might be too much trouble to uninstall Norton so is there a way of keeping it and using something else to catch what norton misses?

How about NOD32 i read many times that this is one of the best AV's, can i install this but dont enable the protection and just use it as a scanner.

Or do u just recommend uninstalling Norton (even if i paid for it) and use somehting like NOD32 or AVG which are better.

I have no experience with NOD32 so I can't judge it. I can however tell you that AVG does a outstanding job in detecting things Norton misses. I had Norton for years until I started getting more into malware. I realized that its a resource hog and doesnt really do a good job in detecting. When it does detect something, very seldom does it actually delete or quarantine, usuallty it sits there "Access to the file is denied" which does you no good.

As far as running more than one antivirus, its not recommended as running more than one antivirus will cause conflicts on your computer. This applies to more than one firewall as well.

Can i install AVG or NOD32 as a backup scanner, ie install without real time protect and leave Norton. Im just a bit worried in uninstalling Norton incase it gives me troubles etc and i paid for it.

If you install anything else Norton will need to be uninstalled. If you uninstall Norton and have any problems, Symantec has a utlility that will force the removal if Add/Remove doesnt work.

It's up to you whether you you uninstall or not, but I would not recommend installing anything else with Norton. Run one antivirus and one firewall.
