Norton Antivirus Alert Pop ups

I am trying to find out how to turn off the annoying pop ups (NAV alerts) where NAV tells me every little thing that it is doing as it runs in the background. I can usually ignore them if surfing..etc but if I am typing for example...the editor I am writing in "studders" if one happens to raise its head while typing and I have to relocate the mouse pick where I want to continue typing. Seems as if it happens more than it should that these alerts keep coming and at times..several one after the other. I do not want to disable the software seeing that it's paid for and I want it to do what it is supposed to do...(I know...not everyone likes NAV...but it is just what I had all along...)
