I have Dell Dimesion 4600 with Win XP Home. I use Norton IS 2005. Norton gave a warning that another computer fromm address 127.0.0.1 was attempting to acess my PC with a Trojan Horse.I wasnotoline and my PC is not on a network with another PC. I understand that 127.0.0.1 is basically, my PC.
Anyone shed more light on this? How can my PC try to contact itself, if that is what is happening, and be blocked by its own firewall? Can I list this adress in Norton's trused zone for networking without opening my PC to attack?

Hi Dudes, I am Sandeep, ia m Facing a Strange problem. i have a Standlone machine with Windows XP Professional installed and i recently connected Cable Modem to connect to internet. as after adding ISP's IP addess and DNS address i am able to Browse Internet, whereas i am unable to ping Loopback address and becoz of that i am unable to download email in Outlook Express. Can any one suggest how to get ride of this. ( note : I tried Onboard Intel 10/100 MBPS card, also Tried PCI realtek ethernet card, still Unable to Ping Loopback and at the same time i am able to browse the internet. ) Please do Suggest at sk2317@hotmail.com or can even add me in MSN chat. Regards, Sandeep

Shaun, I solved my problem. It was Symantec Personal Firewall: although disabled, it blocked ICMP (so any pinging - even the loopback - timeouted), https, file sharing was blocked... I removed it completely (add/remove programs could not do it, Symantec deinstal neither. Only after deleting all Symantec local-machine registry keys with regedit I was able do remove the "stuck" firewall and reinstal it.) Everything works now. I suggest you check any installed firewall on your XP (check also the built-in XP firewall).
