Talking to Halo in my other thread (top 10) I've been reminiscing about games gone by.....long gone by lol

Some of the games I remember playing for hours and hours day after day when I was a kid. When I think back I realise some of these games paved the way for the big name games we have now.
I'm not talking about the obvious ones like Pac Man, Pong and Donkey Kong but the more....cult classics shall we say, games that were big in their day but forgotton in the barrage of games since.

    Operation Wolf.....Remember that?

2D FPS, I remember playing this game made by Taito over 20 years ago.
I played it on my Sinclair Spectrum +2, but the Arcade machine I'm pretty sure had 2 Uzi's mounted for 2 player.
Games like this are resposible for COD, MOH etc. But I guess the same could be said of Duck Hunt lol

    Bomb Jack.

Not quite sure what this one may have paved the way for but one of the most addictive games I ever played, no end to the game it just got faster and faster. Jump around and grab the bombs, preferably in order to obtain max points while avoiding the baddies.

    Barbarian...

This would be one of the games that later spawned Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, Barbarian by name and very barbaric to play, ultimate move was spinning decapitation lol, pretty heavy stuff for games way back when.

Just a couple of examples, I will add more as I think of them, feel free to add games from your younger years, whether those years were back in the Atari/Amiga/Commador 64 years or the Sage/Nintendo years or even the PS years. Basically, great games that have been forgotten but as you remember them they bring back fond memories.

This is where us old guys show our age :-D

Kung Fu Master! OMG I loved that game.
Something tells me I'm going to search for emulators soon lol

    Commando

    The predecessor to Mercs.
Top down run and gun, the guns sounded kind like somebody spitting pips lol

    Match Day

lmao I remember I used to get really angry at this game, I used to constantly acuse it of cheating......unless I was winning lol

    Outrun
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/warajevo/outrun.gif
Who could forget outrun, this game was awesome speed racer, early style NFS. The Arcade machine was the red car from the game Ferrari I think and it had a gear shift , steering wheel and pedals and would rock side to side lol

    Robocop

Obviously a franchise of the movie, 2D scrolling platform shooter, pretty simple but I absolutely loved this game, then one day it stoped working.......and I was sad :(

Just a few more I remember fondly :)

Edit: For those of you who may read this and are of the younger generation, most of these games came on Audio tape, you would put the tape in the deck and type whatever command was needed for your system, usually "Run" lol or something to that effect and then hit play n the tape deck. It would take anywhere from 2 minites upto 10 minutes for these games to load and be ready to play. I had one game called Daley Thompson's Decathlon that took almost 15 minutes to load lol and would crash 50% of the time, man no wonder I grew up to be extrememly patient :-D

Well, I first started out with Tetris/Captain Comic on my EGA 286 machine back in '86. Tetris needs no intro but Captain Comic might.

After that, on the 286 were the Larry Leisure Suit games by Sierra, plus Police Quest and Space Quest. Along with that I loved the Sierra King's Quest, a great puzzle type game, well they all were puzzle games, not just shoot 'em up which is not my type of game. Brains not reflexes.;)

There are some free remade games of this type @ AGDI Interactive and a couple of other sites that have remade them 1:1 in VGA or embellished them like AGDI have with a better or at least an extended story. I'm not sure if I posted this before but here it is.:)

I'll leave today's crop of games alone.;)

You'll need the patience of a saint and DOSBox to make most of those games work again.

Make a note, PapaDuke loses three geek points. :p

They have a guide on configuring DOSBox thaton Abandonia, that makes it very simple to set up. I've never had a problem with the games I've tried.

I would, if I hadn't had an account with them since pre-beta. ;)

Awwww, now I'm -2103976192376087602135098217560982109812365 on that point scale. :(

    I'm a noob, what can I say...

That aside, yes DOSBox rocks and I got One Must Fall 2097 to work, man that's a fun fighter with a great soundtrack...
